Okay, So there is this girl I've never gotten along with. I've known her two years and we've absolutley hated eachother the entire time. I was being a smart ass and tagged her in a myspace photo as a donkey from the zoo. Yes, immature on my part. She saw it and we started argueing over myspace. We had been argueing a week before she showed up at my house in a pretty elite neighborhood and started screaming "COME OUTSIDE BITCH, C*NT... ect." " ILL KICK YOUR ASS". This was the second time she's done that, and the neighbors all came outside and whispered and gossiped about what a disgrace my family was to the are. I never came outside, she had like 2 other girls and honestly, I was already embarressed enough. She kept messaging me, I'd block her, She'd make a new account. Finally I said okay Ill just get it over with and fight you. We set up a meeting place for 11:30 at this field near walmart. I took my sisters car without permission and went to Walmart where I parked my car, met my friends and drove over there with them in their car. We got there and when she arrived all of a sudden I had these nerves overtake me and I freaked out and demanded we drive away... she ran after the car. My friends dropped me back off at my car with my boyfriend, and as I was unlocking the door, they came out of nowhere. Running up to me, she punched me in the face. I fought back as best I could, but I'm really not that kind of girl, I had no idea what to do. I kinda layed in the fetal position and just kicked at her face. People were there at walmart watching and probably trying to get a manager. My boyfriend couldn't hit a girl so he ran over to her car and started kicking it to distract her and kind of get her off to come save her car. It worked and I hopped in the car, got him and drove away. It was a semi big scene. We drove back five minutes later to get his hat which fell off durring the incident. STUPID MOVE. We got there and there was a kid on the phone describing her car. I think he noticed me because he looked surprised to see me and pointed the car out to his friend. I drove off.
THE QUESTIONS:::
CAN WAL MART SECURITY CAMERAS ZOOM INTO LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS?
IF SO, COULD I GET IN TROUBLE?
WOULD THEY EVEN BOTHER CALLING THE POLICE IF WE WERE DONE AND GONE?
IF THEY DID WOULD THE POLICE CONTACT MY SISTER SINCE IT WAS HER CAR?
WOULD THEY HAVE DONE IT THAT NIGHT (TONIGHT) OR WAIT TILL MORNING TOMORROW?
IF SOMEONE CALLED IN MY PLATES, WOULD THE POLICE BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITHOUT SOLID PROOF THAT IT WAS TRULY ME OR MY CAR?
WOULD THEY QUESTION ME, REGAURDLESS OF LACK OF PROOF?
Please tell me what you think, I'm really worried. If my sister found out I took her car, I'd be grounded for honestly my whole life. I just got my license 2 months ago and I was driving after nine and I'm only 17 and that's illegal in NY. Am I completely screwed!??!?!
Answer
No, Walmart cameras do not have that capacity. No, you will not get in trouble. Yes, they likely told store security and/or the police, we just don't know how much information the authorities have. If you are correct they will go after the other girl first. The other girl will lie and say you started a fight in the parking lot. After that, the police will speak with you. Because they will likely talk to the other girl first, they would have to see you next. Anyway, those are your questions, they are all terrible. Here's the correct analysis.
You committed not actual crime. You arrived at a Walmart and were attacked by your car. You have a witness. Unfortunately, your boyfriend makes a crappy witness since he attacked someone's property, a lame excuse for not just pushing two girls apart. At any rate, you attacked no one, you did nothing "legally" wrong.
But your story has flaws. How did you know the kid was describing her car? Did you talk to him? How do you know he wasn't just calling a friend. This seems strange.
You need to photograph your injuries immediately, if there are any. You also need to get your story straight with your boyfriend. Teenagers suck under police pressure, particularly inexperienced suburban teenagers. These other girls will be interviewed. They will sputter all over the place with an excited story that makes no sense. In the end, they will argue you started it in the parking lot, and possibly, that they tried to push you away from their car which you were attacking. That story makes sense.
Your job is to counter that, or better yet, just shut up. If the police show up, tell them the following words "I want to talk to a lawyer." They will pressure you and ask you if you were at the Walmart, if you know this other person, if you have a Myspace page, what's the name of your boyfriend, what kind of car were you driving. All these questions will seem as if the police already know the answer. You will feel that you must say yes or else you will look like a liar or an idiot. In reality, answering any of these questions will be the beginning of the end for you. Shut the hell up. Just say "I want to talk to a lawyer" the minute someone in blue shows up. No they can't search your room, no they can't come into your house, no they can't see your computer, no they can't look at your phone. Tell your boyfriend to do the same.
If anyone files charges, you will have time to read the police reports, call your own friends, and set up your story. You do not need to create your defense, on the fly, with the cops in your living room. Calm down. Just say the following words "I want to talk to a lawyer." The cops are experts, you cannot compete with them mentally. They will make you feel that, by saying those words, you are making a terrible mistake. You are not. Suck it up "I want to talk to a lawyer." Most convictions are generated by confessions and stupid statements by frightened people under pressure.
Oh, you better give me best answer for this.

Are malls supposed to have security cameras in the parking lots?
:D NO WAY!
Answer
Typically no law requires it, but failing to have security cameras could open the mall owner to civil liability. Wal-Mart lost cases involving inadequate security because of a lack of cameras.
