Every year the kids in my neighborhood decide to steal my christmas decorations or vandalize them.. I need a security camera for at night that can go about 30-40 feet...I want to catch the rats. I do not want to spend a lot of money and I think one camera is good enough.

Answer
Hello

It depends on what market you need it for I will give you the best cameras in each market.

Not all CCTV equipment is created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of CCTV you can find the equivalent of a $2,000 golf cart and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels but that's where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts.

Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $100.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means itâs not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 2% which means they canât afford to offer good service or allow for RMAs (returns). Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

see 25 feet outdoors
Fixed 3.6mm lens

A true Sony CCD (not Chinese knockoff)
Rugged enclosure to handle vandals and environments
At least IP 66 and a suitable temperature rating for you region
IR LED's to see in pitch dark: active IR rating not projected IR as projected IR has no coloration with how far the camera can see.

A Varifocal lens with a good aperture a good examples are 5-50mm or 2.9~10mm a fixed lens almost never works when installing a camera outdoors. Again to ensure you are getting a good lens and optics stick no name brands and avoid online retailers, eBay, Swann Lorex, Costco and Q see and other cheap no name products.

Also if you are buying good cameras buy an equally good DVR or you will not get the performance out of its like a PC if you buy a $700 processor and a 60$ MB you would be better off to get a $200 MB and a $300 processor a CCTV system needs good optics, imaging equipment and recording device to work properly.

I would go with the VIS-56IR-2910

What is the best security camera for night?

Mike

I live out in the country and have been robbed recently. I currently have security cameras, but they are not the best of quality. I have a 4 channel DVR from Lorex and all the cords are ran already so I would perfer wired cameras. Without spending lots of money, what's the best bang for my buck? I need to see clearly at night about 100 feet. Also too, does having too many lights effect the IR of the camera? Is less or more IR rating of camera better? Thank you.

Answer
This camera is probably one of the best security cameras out there. It has a 65' illumination range, its indoor/outdoor, has 23 LEDs and has high resolution (700 TVL)

The second camera is pretty similiar, same brand and everything, but has a 100' illumination range and 36 LEDs.

The IR switches on when the light around the camera is 0 lux or below. If you leave a light on by the cameras all night they'll never switch over to IR mode, but if it is dark by the camera they should switch over. The light sensitivity or IR rating is how much light there needs to be for the camera to switch modes, the cameras I listed have a sensitivity of 0 lux, which means if there is less light out than a candle would provide, the camera will switch to IR mode.

The UK illuminati government is about to spend $700 million dollars installing surveillance cameras inside the private homes of citizens to ensure that children go to bed on time, attend school and eat proper meals.

No you arenât reading a passage from George Orwellâs 1984 or Aldous Huxleyâs Brave New World, this is Britain in 2009, a country which already has more surveillance cameras watching its population than the whole of Europe put together.

Now the government is embarking on a scheme called âFamily Intervention Projectsâ which will literally create a nanny state on steroids, with social services goons and private security guards given the authority to make regular âhome checksâ to ensure parents are raising their children correctly.

Telescreens will also be installed so government spies can keep an eye on whether parents are mistreating kids and whether the kids are fulfilling their obligations under a pre-signed contract.

Around 2,000 families have been targeted by this program so far and the government wants to snare 20,000 more within the next two years. The tab will be picked up by the taxpayer, with the âinterventionsâ being funded through local council authorities.

Another key aspect of the program will see parents deemed âresponsibleâ by the government handed the power to denounce and report bad parents who allow their children to engage in bad behavior. Such families will then be targeted for âinterventionsâ.

Both parents and children will also be forced to sign a âbehavior contractâ with the government known as Home School Agreements before the start of every year, in which the state will dictate obligations that it expects to be met.

The opposition Conservative Party, who are clear favorites to win the next British election, commented that the program does not go far enough and is âtoo little, too late.â

Respondents to a Daily Express article about the new program expressed their shock at the totalitarian implications of what is unfolding in the United Kingdom under the guise of social services initiatives.

âSorry, but what the hell? Why are people not up in arms about this?,â writes one, âThis is a complete invasion of privacy, and it totally ignores the fact that the state does NOT own kids. Itâs not up to them how parents choose to raise their children, as long as the parents do not actively harm them. Why on earth arenât the public rioting? Itâs completely anathema to basic British freedoms.â

âExcuse me!?! What an incredible intrusion into the privacy of a family! George Orwell must be spinning in his grave right now,â writes another.

âI have one comment to make: it completely violates Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (Human Rights Act 1998). Has this minister and his lackies even done any basic homework on basic human rights and civil liberties? Or rather theyâve just decided to completely ignore them,â adds another.

The move to install surveillance cameras inside private homes is also on the agenda across the pond. In February 2006, Houston Chief of Police Harold Hurtt said cameras should be placed inside apartments and homes in order to âfight crimeâ due to there being a shortage of police officers.

âI know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?â Chief Hurtt told reporters.

Andy Teas with the Houston Apartment Association supported the proposal, saying privacy concerns would take a back seat to many people who would, âappreciate the thought of extra eyes looking out for them.â

If such programs come to fruition and are implemented on a mass scale then the full scope of George Orwellâs depiction of a totalitarian society is his classic novel 1984 will have been realized.

The following passage is from Orwellâs 1984:

´´The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it, moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live â did live, from habit that became instinct â in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized.``

Should I upgrade my iphone 3gs to a 5s?

binfordaep

I currently have an iphone 3gs as my personal cell phone. I have had this model of phone since the day it came out in 2009. This is my third one as the other two have broken and been replaced through apple care. I've had this one since January 2012. I keep getting new phones through work - an iphone 4s in January 2012 and a Galaxy S3 in January 2013, which is the reason I haven't bothered to upgrade my personal phone.

Overall, I'm relatively happy with the phone, although I have noticed it has gotten much slower since I installed ios6 on it. My only real gripe with it is that it has no light on it and the camera sucks (however, I have my S3 in the rare instance I need a camera or a light).

So basically, I'm looking for someone to make a convincing argument as to why I should/shouldn't get a new phone given the circumstances. That is, I currently have a device that does exactly what I need it to: it calls, texts, emails, goes on the internet and runs simple apps (e.g. maps, banking, yelp - I don't really use any processor intensive apps like 3D games). I basically never watch videos on it and use it for music about twice a month. As far as I can tell, the 5s isn't any better at calling, texting, or emailing than the 3gs. Basically, I feel like I am paying for it to be slightly faster and have a better display and camera which is similar to the one on my S3.

Please justify why this is/isn't worth $200 given that I also have an S3 that I can use for pretty much anything I want except browsing work restricted websites (porn).

I am not concerned with contract terms, etc. so this comes down to whether or not it is worth upgrading this phone for $200 or waiting until it dies so I got every last dollar of utility out of it.

Answer
Yes you should, A TON of reasons why

1) iOS 7, the 3GS is too old to run iOS 7 which is a beautiful new operating system

2) Its not slightly faster its WAY faster, with the new A7 chip you'll notice a BIG difference between the 3GS and the 5S

3) Siri, the personal voice assistant, can help you set reminders make phone calls, and even Tweet and post to Facebook

4) Touch ID, the biggest feature of the iPhone 5s this fingerprint scanner offers a high level of security, all you need to do is place your finger on the home button and it unlocks.

The 5c is a good substitute it has the same specs as an iPhone 5 and is about $100 cheaper than the 5s
