I have a Dealership located in San Diego and I want (outdoor) HD cameras. I really would like to have a blueray DVR or something VERY similar to that because I want the highest quality for DVR and Camera.

I also want Internet enabled so I can remote view it.

So again please help me find a 1080i or 1080p Camera with High def. compression on the DVR with Internet remote access. Thanks!

Also if you can find a camera where you can move it around and zoom in and all, that will be perfect too!

I am part of the aquatics booster club at a high school and want to mount a high quality video camera (and microphone) onto a fixed position near the pool at a high school to record water polo games. I need the video to be shot in 1080p with decent sound (able to hear whistles and call-outs). The games will be played in the daytime, and should be recorded directly onto a computer hard drive either in a nearby office, or a laptop used by the coaches (who will sit and coach in the pool area). The plan so far is to mount this rig and it's weather proof shelter to a light pole near the pool.
The critical points are:
1.) Camera mounted high up where no one has to touch it to operate it. Everything including turning it on and off has to be done from a computer nearby.
2.) Quality video and decent audio from at least 40 feet away.
3.) No significant operating skills required. No one wants to record video or sound manually on the ground. No one will be willing to edit video or audio or sync anything. All we want to do is burn it to a DVD and be done after every game.
4.) Our budget is $10,000, though we by no means have to spend all of it. If we don't spend it, aquatics can use it for something in following years.

Please help. Our team trains very hard and is very competitive, and we want this to last for years to come and provide video for training and for team viewing purposes. Do we need to hire a professional? Can we pay professionals to install pro-sumer equipment?

I agree with "airdogspace2" and suggest you get this done professionally.

1) Most dSLRs will overheat and shut down afer about 20 minutes of recording video. Your games probably last longer. than that.

2) Additional requirements: Power. We presume the camera is never dimounted from the pole. There are no batteries that last forever. Run power.

3) Questions: From your description, zoom is not required. Also, panning the camera up/down; left right is not required - if this is required then a whole different set of things happen.

4) Assuming the video is burned to a DVD, as which format? If playable in a computer - as a MOV, MP4 or AVI file... or playable in any regular DVD player? If in a regular DVD player, they can only deal with standard definition video, so the requirement to record in 1080p is unnecessary. If to playback in a computer as a MOV, MP4 or AVI file in high definition a single layer DVD holds only 4.7 gig of data while a double layer DVD holds 8.5 gig of data. I just did a render of a 00:03:38.00 (0 hours: 3 minutes: 38 seconds. 0 frames) of a high quality, 1920x1080p/30 edited video. It was 2.6 gig. Assuming a water polo match is 60 minutes, no one wants to edit, for round numbers, just multiply the 03:38 x 20 - rounding... we also do 2.5 gig x 20 = 50 gig of low compression, high quality video. Then it needs to be compressed. This same 2.6 gig file took about 30 minutes to compress into an MP4 suitable for use on a personal media player to about 130 meg - so that's doable... If only 1 DVD is needed, then 4 minutes to insert a disc and burn remove the disc, mark it...

There's more for video, but we'll hold here for a moment... Now for audio...

If you were to position yourself where a single mic would be placed and not move, chances are pretty good you would not be able to hear call outs "from 40 feet away" - whistles you probably could... To "hear" like that over the area of a pool would need several mics placed closer to the activity - not the camera's built-in mic - and a parabolic mic is too directional. If you have ever watched a televised pro or college basketball game, there are about 30 mics placed up and down the court and an audio person changes the gain on the mics closest to the action - and is very actively involved making adjustments. You don't need this - but perhaps 6 shotgun mics - 3 on each side of the pool, perhaps no more than about 20 feet way mounted on a pole pointed at the pool.

Perhaps the high school has an AV club or computer club (with an emphasis on video capture/editing) that is willing to team up and provide the camera work, editing and such - even do the video providing they get to use your equipment to capture the water polo matches...

Another option is to use high quality commercial grade security cameras and high end video server/recording gear. The video burn will take a while, but the cameras can be outdoor rated and you could use the cameras for other things (security device). If go this route, $10k may not be enough.

Brickhouse is an excellent source for spy glasses. They offer spy glasses with video cameras AND spy glasses with the invisible rear view mirror, which is pretty cool. Obviously your looking for the spy camera version. :)

Battery life on spy glasses (as with most body worn spy cams) is going to be pretty limited. 2 hours is generally the max on a spy cam this small. However you can turn the camera off to conserve battery life. You might find that the higher resolution you require, the lower the battery life. High quality video drains the heck out of a battery, especially if the battery is small (like small enough to fit in a pair of glasses).

There are lots of other body worn spy cameras you can get though that will record HIGH RESOLUTION video and do it for a longer time.

One of my favorites is the coffee mug spy cam. You can carry that around with you anywhere and the beauty is you can even leave it sitting somewhere for a few hours (without suspicion). Spy glasses are easily detectable if your not wearing them. I'm not sure exactly what you want to use the spy glasses for but if you need a longer battery life on a spy camera with high def video that is portable you might consider venturing beyond spy glasses, cause you seem to have found the best you'll find. The limit on the size of these devices is why you can't find them with a longer battery life.

Can my camera "see" infra-red?

I have a Nikon Coolpix P510. It is a 16.1 megapixel CMOS still digital camera. It also has the ability to record 1080p full HD video. My question is, if I buy an Infrared light to use with the camera, will it be able to see this light kind of like the episodes of Ghost Adventures? I know they have really expensive cameras on that show, and mine is not quite that expensive, but I would like to re-create that effect and before I spend money on an InfraRed light, I want to make sure my money is well invested.

You can get an IR filter, but the resulting exposure times will be long, not anywhere near suitable for motion.

The sensors are indeed very sensitive to IR light. So much so that it is a problem. The "cure" is a filter on the sensor that blocks most of the IR light. Take a look at "http://www.lifepixel.com/" to see more info on this and they may have a conversion kit for your camera.

Or.... Get a cheap IR security camera.

Or...film in daylight with natural light and use post-production to make it look like IR.

good dash cams to buy?

I'm looking for a good dash cam to buy after an accident with some idiot who backed into me. It was blamed on me but I got the license plate of a city bus near me and we got footage from it to prove otherwise and in the end, it went against their license.

So, I want a dash cam for future incidents like this. What's a good name to look for that has good enough quality to read license plates? What price am I looking at for a decent one? What stores can I find these? How do they charge (batteries, in car charger..)

Any additional details? Like, what sort of memory do they have, how long does a charge last, etc.?

It's impossible to select the "best" camera. All of the sellers say theirs is the best, which isn't really true.

But I would look for a true HD resolution, highest DPI. Many of the ones I've seen will keep the last 2/5/15 minutes of a recording. Color is good, but hard to get a decent resolution in very dim light. One critic said that the camera they had took choppy movie images at high resolutions.

iPhone will take video. My son-in-law has a mount on his windshield. Took a video of us coming down a volcano in Maui.

You can buy a security camera with internal memory.

And you'll probably need 2-4 of them - one from the front, rear and each side. Cost will depend upon how much area you want to cover and the quality of the images and camera.

I only talk about iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
1. Processor Speed
The iPhone 5S has a faster processor than the 5C. The 5S sports an Apple A7 processor, while the heart of the 5C is a 1Ghz Apple A6. The A7 is a newer, more powerful model than the A6, particularly because it's a 64-bit chip (the first in a smartphone, according to Apple). Because it's 64-bit, the A7 can process twice as much data at the same time as the 32-bit A6. Processor speed isn't as big a factor in smartphones as it is in computers (there are many other things that affect overall performance as much, if not more), and the A6 is very fast (it's the same processor as in the iPhone 5), but the A7 in the iPhone 5S will make that model a bit speedier than the 5C.
2. Motion Co-Processor
The iPhone 5S is the first iPhone to include a motion co-processor. This is a chip that interacts with the iPhone's physical sensors--the accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope--to provide new feedback and options to apps. This could include much more detailed fitness and exercise apps, and the ability to know whether the user is sitting or standing. HD DVR to use with PS3?

I wonder if there is a DVR, like a Dish Network DVR, but just a blank one with a bunch of feeds including HDMI and can record in 1080p any feed that goes into it. I know they have these for security camera recordings. I wonder if I could route my PS3 through the DVR into my TV and record my online games. Also if I rent movies on PSN, I could keep them forever by recording on the DVR as I play them, then get them off the DVR in like an mp4 HD format and store them on external hard drive or on my PC.

That's a pretty beast system. It's similar to the one I use, although I'd recommend beefing up your processor to an AMD 3+ 8 core. It's what I'm using now and whew, is it amazing. Plus, I just prefer AMD.
That Mobo might not be compatible with it, but if so you can go ROG (Republic of Gamers) They have some awesome gaming mobos.
I went for the same memory manufacturer, just a bigger size. Corsair is bloody amazing, nuff' said.
As for the Razer stuff, they make some pretty neat products, but it's basically just eye candy. You can opt for a cheap keyboard and mouse and so long as they're not wireless, you should see almost no change in your gaming. Personally, I like eye candy so I went with razer anyways.
If possible you should hardline that monster, that's just my opinion but being wireless will lag you a bit.
Get an aftermarket heatsink. You definitely want one of those to keep your processor cool. Zahlman makes a really awesome orb heatsink that works great, but it's a bit of a beast in terms of size.
Don't listen to any idiot that tries to sell you on water cooling being superior. Yes, they may cool a little better, but not exceedingly more than a heatsink. Watercooling is more of a hobby than anything.

EDIT: Two things, Stick with windows 7, 8 is still patchy and not very game friendly, you can always upgrade later. Two, I agree you should get a small SSD to put your OS on, however your games do NOT need to be on the same drive in order to run. that's just stupid. Tuck your OS in your SSD and then put everything else on your other Drives. How do I know this? That's the exact same setup I'm running right now, and I've got about a dozen or so MMOs that I run often and never once a problem. Don't bother partitioning the main drives for the OS if you opt for the SSD obviously.

How can I operate and record video from a DSLR camera 100% from a PC?

I am part of the aquatics booster club at a high school and want to mount a high quality video camera (and microphone) onto a fixed position near the pool at a high school to record water polo games. I need the video to be shot in 1080p with decent sound (able to hear whistles and call-outs). The games will be played in the daytime, and should be recorded directly onto a computer hard drive either in a nearby office, or a laptop used by the coaches (who will sit and coach in the pool area). The plan so far is to mount this rig and it's weather proof shelter to a light pole near the pool.
The critical points are:
1.) Camera mounted high up where no one has to touch it to operate it. Everything including turning it on and off has to be done from a computer nearby.
2.) Quality video and decent audio from at least 40 feet away.
3.) No significant operating skills required. No one wants to record video or sound manually on the ground. No one will be willing to edit video or audio or sync anything. All we want to do is burn it to a DVD and be done after every game.
4.) Our budget is $10,000, though we by no means have to spend all of it. If we don't spend it, aquatics can use it for something in following years.

Please help. Our team trains very hard and is very competitive, and we want this to last for years to come and provide video for training and for team viewing purposes. Do we need to hire a professional? Can we pay professionals to install pro-sumer equipment?

I agree with "airdogspace2" and suggest you get this done professionally.

1) Most dSLRs will overheat and shut down afer about 20 minutes of recording video. Your games probably last longer. than that.

2) Additional requirements: Power. We presume the camera is never dimounted from the pole. There are no batteries that last forever. Run power.

3) Questions: From your description, zoom is not required. Also, panning the camera up/down; left right is not required - if this is required then a whole different set of things happen.

4) Assuming the video is burned to a DVD, as which format? If playable in a computer - as a MOV, MP4 or AVI file... or playable in any regular DVD player? If in a regular DVD player, they can only deal with standard definition video, so the requirement to record in 1080p is unnecessary. If to playback in a computer as a MOV, MP4 or AVI file in high definition a single layer DVD holds only 4.7 gig of data while a double layer DVD holds 8.5 gig of data. I just did a render of a 00:03:38.00 (0 hours: 3 minutes: 38 seconds. 0 frames) of a high quality, 1920x1080p/30 edited video. It was 2.6 gig. Assuming a water polo match is 60 minutes, no one wants to edit, for round numbers, just multiply the 03:38 x 20 - rounding... we also do 2.5 gig x 20 = 50 gig of low compression, high quality video. Then it needs to be compressed. This same 2.6 gig file took about 30 minutes to compress into an MP4 suitable for use on a personal media player to about 130 meg - so that's doable... If only 1 DVD is needed, then 4 minutes to insert a disc and burn remove the disc, mark it...

There's more for video, but we'll hold here for a moment... Now for audio...

If you were to position yourself where a single mic would be placed and not move, chances are pretty good you would not be able to hear call outs "from 40 feet away" - whistles you probably could... To "hear" like that over the area of a pool would need several mics placed closer to the activity - not the camera's built-in mic - and a parabolic mic is too directional. If you have ever watched a televised pro or college basketball game, there are about 30 mics placed up and down the court and an audio person changes the gain on the mics closest to the action - and is very actively involved making adjustments. You don't need this - but perhaps 6 shotgun mics - 3 on each side of the pool, perhaps no more than about 20 feet way mounted on a pole pointed at the pool.

Perhaps the high school has an AV club or computer club (with an emphasis on video capture/editing) that is willing to team up and provide the camera work, editing and such - even do the video providing they get to use your equipment to capture the water polo matches...

Another option is to use high quality commercial grade security cameras and high end video server/recording gear. The video burn will take a while, but the cameras can be outdoor rated and you could use the cameras for other things (security device). If go this route, $10k may not be enough.

Brickhouse is an excellent source for spy glasses. They offer spy glasses with video cameras AND spy glasses with the invisible rear view mirror, which is pretty cool. Obviously your looking for the spy camera version. :)

Battery life on spy glasses (as with most body worn spy cams) is going to be pretty limited. 2 hours is generally the max on a spy cam this small. However you can turn the camera off to conserve battery life. You might find that the higher resolution you require, the lower the battery life. High quality video drains the heck out of a battery, especially if the battery is small (like small enough to fit in a pair of glasses).

There are lots of other body worn spy cameras you can get though that will record HIGH RESOLUTION video and do it for a longer time.

One of my favorites is the coffee mug spy cam. You can carry that around with you anywhere and the beauty is you can even leave it sitting somewhere for a few hours (without suspicion). Spy glasses are easily detectable if your not wearing them. I'm not sure exactly what you want to use the spy glasses for but if you need a longer battery life on a spy camera with high def video that is portable you might consider venturing beyond spy glasses, cause you seem to have found the best you'll find. The limit on the size of these devices is why you can't find them with a longer battery life.

Also if I rent movies on PSN, I could keep them forever by recording on the DVR as I play them, then get them off the DVR in like an mp4 HD format and store them on external hard drive or on my PC.

That's a pretty beast system. It's similar to the one I use, although I'd recommend beefing up your processor to an AMD 3+ 8 core. It's what I'm using now and whew, is it amazing. Plus, I just prefer AMD.
That Mobo might not be compatible with it, but if so you can go ROG (Republic of Gamers) They have some awesome gaming mobos.
I went for the same memory manufacturer, just a bigger size. Corsair is bloody amazing, nuff' said.
As for the Razer stuff, they make some pretty neat products, but it's basically just eye candy. You can opt for a cheap keyboard and mouse and so long as they're not wireless, you should see almost no change in your gaming. Personally, I like eye candy so I went with razer anyways.
If possible you should hardline that monster, that's just my opinion but being wireless will lag you a bit.
Get an aftermarket heatsink. You definitely want one of those to keep your processor cool. Zahlman makes a really awesome orb heatsink that works great, but it's a bit of a beast in terms of size.
Don't listen to any idiot that tries to sell you on water cooling being superior. Yes, they may cool a little better, but not exceedingly more than a heatsink. Watercooling is more of a hobby than anything.

EDIT: Two things, Stick with windows 7, 8 is still patchy and not very game friendly, you can always upgrade later. Two, I agree you should get a small SSD to put your OS on, however your games do NOT need to be on the same drive in order to run. that's just stupid. Tuck your OS in your SSD and then put everything else on your other Drives. How do I know this? That's the exact same setup I'm running right now, and I've got about a dozen or so MMOs that I run often and never once a problem. Don't bother partitioning the main drives for the OS if you opt for the SSD obviously.
