Can you Turn Off the Night Vision on a security Camera?

Jhgjh

I have two wireless security cameras, but both have night vision LED's inside that light up, I wanted to turn those off but still record, so that the camera does not gives its self away despite that the video will be very dark, because its near a street light anyway. Can this be done? There is no switch or buttons on it, so is there a way?

Thanks

Answer
You need to modify the camera, to disable the LEDs, or at least mask them.

If it is truly night vision, then it will emit IR. only, with possibly minimal visible emission. You could get a purple filter to filter that.

Security night time vision cameras for home?

Sienna

I am looking for cameras as a jealous pathetic ex cannot get over the fact I ended it with him 7 months ago, and keeps slashing my car Tyre's, scratching horrible names into my car and hanging around my area, and before you say it, I have been to court he has been fined, conditionally discharged and An indefinite restraining order, yet without evidence I cannot get him done for it, the police tried to get evidence by doing forensics on my car and also arranging someone to check no other damage to brake wires etc but no luck with forensics, so looking for security cameras for outside of my home with night time vision, there are so many I need to know which 1 to get, and also what other equipment I need such as recording player etc thanks in advance.

Answer
Set a budget...

Swann and Lorex make decent systems. I would suggest one of the 4-camera kits that comes with an 8-channel DVR. This way, you get 4 low-end night vision cameras that can't see very far, and you can add 4 night vision cameras that can see a lot further.

For example:
http://www.frys.com/product/7183752
plus
http://www.frys.com/product/6678854

We don't know how easy/difficult the installation will be. Pulling cable, adding power, locating the DVR in a useful place, configuring the system to allow computer access (remotely or locally) or smartphone access, and other site specific items are unknowns that can contribute to the expense and complexity of system installation.

Security Cameras capabilities at night?

Nubian Kin

My friend and I have been searching for security cameras for his bar. We have searched the internet to see basic capabilities. Basically, he is searching for something to help deter the vandalism and bar fights in the parking lot. I have came across some sites on the internet that show night time footage and none are very good at distance in low light areas. Hell in fact none are that good at night period. You can see the actual acts going on but actually identifying the perps is nearly impossible. Even some of the footage from the UK where they have cameras every where is pretty unclear at night. Is this what is to be expected from fixed position cameras at night? Even the cameras that have IR and high resolution are not that great at night, when it comes to picking up good images, is this just the norm when it comes to cameras at night? Thanks all in advanced.
Ashley, do you have good lighting around your house? IF not how far do your cameras see at night or at low light situations? Do they get a good picture because there is a lot of light around your house? Since your dad is a PI, I am sure he has good lighting, around the house. Thanks for the answer.

Answer
no that is not the normal, my father is an expert in cameras because he is a private detective....we have cameras through out our homes exterior, you should search for night vision cameras, they are recommended highly.

Will this damage a night vision security camera?

Will pointing a LED light, or a laser pen, at a LED night vision motion detection security camera... ruin, damage, or burn out the LED security camera?
Or will it burn out the LED's on the security camera?

Answer
Why do you want to do such a thing?

Security cameras are NOT LED cameras, there are NO LCD sensors out in the market ... not yet anyway. They only use the LED's lamps to fill the area of interest with enough light to record what goes on there. They all use some kind of sensor like a CCD or CMOS

High power leaser such as found in "laser shows" have been know to damage sensors on dSLR cameras, most notably Canon dSLR's. I don't know if this is because Nikon users are more informed shooters and would never let a laser strike their cameras sensors or if the spatial anti-aliasing filter (hot mirror) protects the Nikon sensors better.

I guess if this is a worry, you can place a special filter over the lens that will reject all of the frequencies used by handheld lasers.

I have a security camera. That has night vision on it. Problem is I don't have a dvr. What I do have is my cpu, a digital cable box that has dvr, and the camera and receiver. Is there anyway I can record footage with these items? If not what would be my cheapest route?

Answer
If the cam receiver has a USB plug, it can tether to the computer.
If it's "Plug-n-Play" it should be detected and self power through the USB line.

Then, since video takes huge amounts of hard drive, you want a 'motion detection' software, to capture things that are moving while in the camera's field of view. That reduces the space needed on the drive.
Here's some of the software (it's free):
http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwvideosurveillance.html

Hook all of these things up and test it indoors to see how it works, alignment, and so on.
"Save" from the software selected onto the computer, to a folder you create. Somewhere on the desktop is handy to get to.

What is a cheap way to set up a security camera in my car?

I own a small taxi cab co. and I want to install security cameras in my cabs (with night vision if possible). Sound would help also.
