How do I take kittens away from their feral mother?

Recently we've noticed a young looking tuxedo cat that goes underneath our shed a lot. My mom suggested that she was eating baby possums but I just told her to let the cat be. But lo and behold after about a month of this behavior two tabby kittens join the mother outside the shed. Our shed is in it's own separate location with fencing surrounding it so the kittens can't leave yet but the mother can. Anyway once we discovered that she had kittens underneath the shed we began to feed her and monitor them with a security camera, over the past few weeks we've been dedicated to the kittens. They are about 5-6 weeks old. Now on to the question. We really would like to take these kittens in but the mother is obviously too feral to domesticate but the kittens have potential. So what I'm asking is if it's okay to take the kittens without the mother? I would feel awful but then again I feel like the kittens would survive and thrive with us. The kittens are weaned because they eat the dry good we leave out for the mother. PLEASE ANSWER ASAP THEY ARE SOON OLD ENOUGH TO LEAVE THE ENCLOSURE. :(

Feral born kittens are not like kittens born to friendly house cats. The sooner you can get them away from mom, the better your chances of socializing them. By the time they are past 6 weeks or so, it becomes much harder as they are learning mom's wild ways. What you need to do though is borrow a humane trap from your local shelter, and trap mom, so that she can be spayed. Other wise she is going to present you with another litter in another couple of months, and one cat will soon turn into 20, then 40 - and then what?

Any product that can be a good baby video monitor and later a security camera? $150-$200 range...?

I don't see why not but the problem is that you cannot exactly 'tune things' in this way. The issue is not signal itself but FCC standards. They tell the companies to put certain devices on certain frequencies for operation. That being said it prevents overlap. However that doesn't prevent too much. Using some Linux software you may be able to hack your wireless router into transmitting that signal to your computer if you have one, theoretically. It is also plausible that the company that made the device may have thought about this already and could have a software program available for use.

All I'm saying is it could be done but whether or not this screws up the router later or not if done by a hack is something you will have to decide on dealing with.

My advice: Get a web cam that can link up via ethernet and yes they make such a beast as a security camera. These have similar sensitive microphones like what you would find in baby monitors. Most though start off around $79.99.

For video cameras you're better off getting cameras that are marketed as security camera and put that in the baby's room, a lot of these types of cameras you can check from a phone or the Internet, they end up being cheaper then a video baby monitor and you can get more then one camera to check on the whole room or even house. Motorola makes a nice one for a few hundred dollars. They are expensive tho, no matter what kind you get

My aunt asked for a new baby minitor in her baby gift registry and I was thinking of getting her the Handheld Color Video Monitor from Target. Its $199.00 and I want it to be worth the money. Is it worth it? Anyone like it/dislike it? Please give me your opinions. I think it is really neat that you can see the baby and everything, but is it too good to be true?

I disagree with the above answer. We actually have a video monitor for our 6 month old son, and it's great! With regualr monitors, all you hear is the sound. You cant always tel whats going on just by the sound you hear. With the video monitor, you can hear the sound, and see what is going on as well. Sometimes, with just a regualr monitor, you will hear somthing strange, and run in to check it out, and it really be nothing. We had many false alarms becasue sound alone doesnt answer concerns.

The video on the monitor is actually pretty clear. On some, you can actually record on it too, incase you want to use it as a security camera!

How can I get front yard city security without fence or ????

Hi, I live in a smallish city in OR and on our shortish street, I have no fence across the front. I am the flower lady in the area and sell flowers for .10 each on a card table and love to let the older people from the apartments walk by and see my flowers and it blesses them. But we have some bad vandals who for years have been coming into our front yards and stealing, breaking anything, just to be mean. Is there any kind of realistic security you have seen or used (not ideas that sound good), that can help or should I just put up a cyclone fence, they would probably just climb over it and I don't much money to spend on it. I would love to have like a laser light like when you go in the store and walk betweeen it it sounds off ??? Or baby monitors connect to a speaker in my room when the light flashes on at night and then alerts me to them being there and wakes me up ???? How much do you know. Please don't suggest security cameras unless you have used them and they have worked

Yes, cameras are your best bet, barring installing a fence.

Systems vary, and can be set to record when motion is detected. You can also have flood lights set on the same principle, so when the vandals strike, they are lit up and taped. Nice evidence for the cops to use.

We are having Baby #2 in a couple of months and we live in a 2-story home, with our bedroom and main living on a different floor than the children's bedrooms. I want to be able to monitor each of my children in their own rooms by seeing and hearing them at the same time. I am also interested in monitoring them in the playroom. Has anyone found that a home security camera system to be more effective or affordable than a traditional baby monitor? If so, what is it like for you and which system did you use? Geeky dweebs and nerds are especially encouraged to reply with help.

To be honest, many baby video monitors can offer what you need. You can buy the parent unit and add more cameras as you need to monitor different rooms. I would take a look at the Samsung SEW-3037W. You can view up to 4 rooms at the same time using 4 cameras, via split screen on the parent unit.
