night vision digital cameras?

i am after a camcorder that does night vision as well as in the day. i havnt got a lot of money i ve tried looking and carnt seem to find the right one. i want it to record over 20hrs a day. can anyone advise me which one is the best. i am in uk. so got to be able to plug in a uk socket. thankuuuuuuu.
B.E.I yes your right a security camera. that would be cheaper than a camcorder. and yes its because of security. i have neighbours from hell. they have persucuted me for yrs. i have the council involved. and two men attacked me. from that house! no proofr it was them polic carnt do nothing. and im female middle age cancer survivor!

Recording over 20 hours a day?!?!?!? Your better off searching for a security camera for several reasons:

1)You would need a camcorder with a 300GB harddrive (for DV, 1GB for 4 to 4.6 minutes of recording).
2) Consumer grade units are not meant to run that long
3)All camcorders that I have seen (and own) that can do night vision, need to be switched to that mode, it doesn't do it automatically.

To record without a DVR you either have to hook the camera up to a PC directly or use one with a built-in SD memory card slot. The problem with SD memory card slots is that the recorded data can fill the available storage space up super fast.

D-Link has some of the best and easiest to use cameras. They can automatically detect your network and they have an extremely user friendly wizard to help set the camera up. Out of all the different brands that we have worked with we find the D-Link brand to be the simplest to set up.

Here is a camera that would do what you want and is wifi compatible so you don't have to have cables running everywhere. The only thing is it needs a PC to store its data.

Here is the lowest end model from D-Link that includes a micro SD memory card slot. These cameras are going to be more expensive and will go in to the 3-digit range.

Can you Turn Off the Night Vision on a security Camera?

I have two wireless security cameras, but both have night vision LED's inside that light up, I wanted to turn those off but still record, so that the camera does not gives its self away despite that the video will be very dark, because its near a street light anyway. Can this be done? There is no switch or buttons on it, so is there a way?

You need to modify the camera, to disable the LEDs, or at least mask them.

If it is truly night vision, then it will emit IR. only, with possibly minimal visible emission. You could get a purple filter to filter that.

It has a 3.5 inch color display and all wiring inlcuded with a small cam.It is surprisingly good quality camera and color display.

How can I record off of my security Camera?

I have a security camera. That has night vision on it. Problem is I don't have a dvr. What I do have is my cpu, a digital cable box that has dvr, and the camera and receiver. Is there anyway I can record footage with these items? If not what would be my cheapest route?

If the cam receiver has a USB plug, it can tether to the computer.
If it's "Plug-n-Play" it should be detected and self power through the USB line.

Then, since video takes huge amounts of hard drive, you want a 'motion detection' software, to capture things that are moving while in the camera's field of view. That reduces the space needed on the drive.

Hook all of these things up and test it indoors to see how it works, alignment, and so on.
"Save" from the software selected onto the computer, to a folder you create. Somewhere on the desktop is handy to get to.

Security cameras that use IR light are what you need if you wish to have an area under surveillance without giving away the fact that a camera is viewing the activity. IR is invisible

On the other hand, preventing theft or damage is really better than capturing someone in the act on video.

It is up to you, but I would think that motion detecting bright lights a AND a camera would reduce vandalism

How to make a night vision light?

use ordinary lighting for security at night. it ups the bar for anyone trying to do wrong if clearly visible, so that is as much a deterrent as cameras. ordinary lighting will give more detail and color which are important clues to making an ID. IR is monochrome and blurry and in some cases not admissable as evidence.

the cheap IR illuminators simply use LED's. they provide enough IR to be useful at about 2 meters (6 feet) maximum distance, great for camcorders at parties. totally useless for surveilence. you need the military type IR lamps, about the size of a small refrigerator to cover a parking lot.

not seen by human? get real, all a crook has to do is use a pocket digital camera to find IR illumination sources. doh.
