Should I upgrade my iphone 3gs to a 5s?

binfordaep

I currently have an iphone 3gs as my personal cell phone. I have had this model of phone since the day it came out in 2009. This is my third one as the other two have broken and been replaced through apple care. I've had this one since January 2012. I keep getting new phones through work - an iphone 4s in January 2012 and a Galaxy S3 in January 2013, which is the reason I haven't bothered to upgrade my personal phone.

Overall, I'm relatively happy with the phone, although I have noticed it has gotten much slower since I installed ios6 on it. My only real gripe with it is that it has no light on it and the camera sucks (however, I have my S3 in the rare instance I need a camera or a light).

So basically, I'm looking for someone to make a convincing argument as to why I should/shouldn't get a new phone given the circumstances. That is, I currently have a device that does exactly what I need it to: it calls, texts, emails, goes on the internet and runs simple apps (e.g. maps, banking, yelp - I don't really use any processor intensive apps like 3D games). I basically never watch videos on it and use it for music about twice a month. As far as I can tell, the 5s isn't any better at calling, texting, or emailing than the 3gs. Basically, I feel like I am paying for it to be slightly faster and have a better display and camera which is similar to the one on my S3.

Please justify why this is/isn't worth $200 given that I also have an S3 that I can use for pretty much anything I want except browsing work restricted websites (porn).

I am not concerned with contract terms, etc. so this comes down to whether or not it is worth upgrading this phone for $200 or waiting until it dies so I got every last dollar of utility out of it.

Answer
Yes you should, A TON of reasons why

1) iOS 7, the 3GS is too old to run iOS 7 which is a beautiful new operating system

2) Its not slightly faster its WAY faster, with the new A7 chip you'll notice a BIG difference between the 3GS and the 5S

3) Siri, the personal voice assistant, can help you set reminders make phone calls, and even Tweet and post to Facebook

4) Touch ID, the biggest feature of the iPhone 5s this fingerprint scanner offers a high level of security, all you need to do is place your finger on the home button and it unlocks.

The 5c is a good substitute it has the same specs as an iPhone 5 and is about $100 cheaper than the 5s

iPhone virgin mobile?

Chris

I want to get the iphone 5s from virgin mobile which is for $385. I live in New York and my dad thinks I should get it in florida since I'm moving there in the summer and he believes it will be cheaper and other nonsense. If I get the iphone from New York and I move to florida nothing will change right? I will still have my service and all? Also every how long can I get a new iphone with virgin mobile (if it's possible at all)

Answer
hear are all the specs for the iphone 5s

iPhone 5S (marketed with a stylized lowercase 's' as iPhone 5s) is a smartphone developed by Apple Inc. It is part of the iPhone line, and was released on September 20, 2013. Apple held an event to formally introduce the high-range phone, and its mid-range counterpart, the iPhone 5C, on September 10, 2013. The iPhone 5s is the successor to the iPhone 5.
As with the principle of the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5S is a revised version of its predecessor, iPhone 5. The phone maintains a very similar design to its predecessor, aside from the introduction of a new home button design using a laser-cut sapphire cover surrounded by a metallic ring, Touch ID, a fingerprint recognition system built directly into the home button which can be used to unlock the phone and authenticate Store and iTunes Store purchases, and an updated camera with a larger aperture and a dual-LED flash optimized for different color temperatures. It also introduced the A7 dual-core processor, the first 64-bit processor to be used on a smartphone, accompanied by the M7 "motion co-processor", a dedicated processor for processing motion data from its accelerometer and gyroscopes without requiring the attention of the main processor. It was also the first Apple device to ship with the newest version of the iOS mobile operating system, iOS 7, which introduced a revamped visual appearance and other new features.
Reception towards the device was generally positive, with some outlets considering it to be the best smartphone available on the market due to its upgraded hardware, Touch ID, and other changes introduced by iOS 7. However, others criticized iPhone 5S for being too similar to its predecessors, while others showed security concerns about the Touch ID system. iPhone 5S, along with iPhone 5C, sold nine million units on their weekend of release, breaking Apple's sales record for iPhones. iPhone 5S was the best selling phone on all major US carriers in September 2013.

History[edit]

The front of 4 Infinite Loop at the Apple Campus.
The iPhone 5S was announced during a keynote at 4 Infinite Loop on September 10, 2013.
Before its official unveiling, media speculation primarily centered around reports that the next iPhone would include a fingerprint scanner; including Apple's July 2012 acquisition of AuthenTec, a developer of mobile security products,[7] references to a fingerprint sensor on the home button in the beta release of iOS 7[8] and leaked packaging for an iPhone 5S showing that the traditional home button now had a metallic "ring" around it. Similar ring-based imagery was seen on the official invite to Apple's iPhone press event in September 2013, where the new device was unveiled.[9] Shortly before its official unveiling, The Wall Street Journal also reported the rumor.[10][11]
Apple announced iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S during a media event at its Cupertino headquarters on September 10, 2013.[12][13] While iPhone 5C became available for preorder on September 13, 2013, iPhone 5S was not available for preorder, however was released on the same day as the 5C, September 20, 2013.[14] While most of the promotion focused on Touch ID, the 64-bit Apple A7 was also a highlight during the event:
This is the first-ever 64-bit processor in a phone of any kind. I donât think the other guys are even talking about it yet. Why go through all this? The benefits are huge. The A7 is up to twice as fast as the previous-generation system at CPU tasks, and up to twice as fast at graphics tasks, too.
âPhil Schiller, Apple keynote at 4 Infinite Loop on September 10, 2013[15]
Schiller then showed demos of Infinity Blade III to demonstrate the A7's processing power and the device's camera using untouched photographs.[16] The release of iOS 7 on September 18, 2013, was also announced during the keynote.[16]
On September 20, 2013, iPhone 5S was released in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, China, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.[17] It was released in 25 additional countries on October 25, 2013, and in 12 countries on November 1, 2013. Indonesia was the last country to receive the iPhone 5S with its release date being the 26 January 2014.[18]
Features[edit]

Operating system and software[edit]
Jonathan Ive designed iOS 7, which uses a flat and colorful design in comparison to the glossy look of iOS 6, which also incorporated skeuomorphic elements.
Main articles: iOS and iOS 7
Further information: iOS version history, iTunes Radio, and AirDrop
The iPhone 5S features iOS, Apple's mobile operating system.[19] The user interface of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons.[20] Interaction with the OS includes gestures such as swipe, tap, pinch, and reverse pinch, all of which have specific definitions within the context of the iOS operating system and its multi-touch interface. Internal accelerometers are used by some applications to respond to shaking the device (one common result is the undo command) or rotating it vertically (one common result is switching from portrait to landscape mode).[20]
iPhone 5S is supplied with iOS 7, released on September 20, 2013.[21] Jonathan Ive, the designer of iOS 7's new elements, described the update as "bringing order to complexity", highlighting features such as refined typography, new icons, translucency, layering, physics, and gyroscope-driven parallaxing as some of the major changes to the design.[22] The design of both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks (version 10.9) noticeably depart from skeuomorphic elements such as green felt in Game Center, wood in Newsstand, and leather in Calendar, in favor of flat, colourful design.[22]
The phone can act as a hotspot, sharing its Internet connection over WiFi, Bluetooth, or USB, and also accesses App Store, an online application distribution platform for iOS developed and maintained by Apple. The service allows users to browse and download applications that were developed with Xcode and the iOS SDK and were published through Apple.[23]
iOS 7 adds AirDrop, an ad-hoc WiFi sharing platform. Users can share files with the iPhone 5 onwards, the iPod Touch (5th generation), iPad (4th generation), or iPad Mini.[24][25] The operating system also adds Control Center, which gives iOS users access to commonly used controls and apps. By swiping up from any screenâincluding the Lock screenâusers can do such things as switch to Airplane mode, turn Wi-Fi on or off, adjust the display brightness and similar basic functions of the device. It also includes a new integrated flashlight function to operate the reverse camera's flash LED as a flashlight.[26] The iPhone 5S functions as a media player, and includes Apple Maps and Passbook. The mapping application includes turn-by-turn navigation spoken directions, 3D views in some major cities and real-time traffic.[27] Users can rotate their device horizontally to landscape mode to access a collage of album covers.
The 5S includes Siri, an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator. The application uses a natural language user interface to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to a set of Web services. Apple claims that the software adapts to the user's individual preferences over time and personalizes results.[28] iOS 7 adds new male and female voices, new system setting functionalities, a redesign to match the rest of the operating system, and integration with Twitter, Wikipedia, Bing, and Photos.[29] Facebook comes integrated through Apple's native apps. Facebook features can be directly accessed from within native apps such as Calendar which can sync Facebook events, or use Facebook's like button from within the Apple App Store.[30][31] iTunes Radio, an internet radio service, is also included on iPhone 5S. It is a free, ad-supported service available to all iTunes users, featuring Siri integration on iOS. Users are able to skip tracks, customize stations, and purchase the station's songs from iTunes Store. Users can also search through their history of previous songs.[32]

I thought HP was the king of lasting forever. I mean, i had a HP pc and it lasted like 10 years.....and today is the first time i've heard of Lenovo LOL
I'm buying this laptop to play Guild Wars 2 and go to college with it.

Answer
http://lockergnome.net/questions/187031/nvidia-gt-650m-vs-the-gtx-660

I'm guessing if performance is important, you'll want the best graphics. Other than that, your choke point would be load speeds from the hard drive, but that's only really on program load, not running. Gaming is going to be the highest demand on your system, and it will be faster on just about everything else then. If you get the matte finish lenovos, those are higher quality, but the shiny cased ones are good, just lower end. HP has no easy gauge like that that I know of. Most laptops are built by a few companies in asia regardless of the branding, and so your machine might be hp or lenovo but built by one of the same factories. The system components are what's important, and the quality control.

I've heard good things about lenovo. Hinges on screen can cause problems, but that's with any laptop. I like my macbook, but going by the specs you've put down, go with the lenovo.

Which of these programmes do I 100% need on my HP laptop?

Energy Star Digital Logo
Hp Setup Manager
HP CloudDrive (never use the cloud)
HP Games (You might like the games, M$ are better)
Cyberlink YouCam (lots of people like this one, your choice)
Magic Desktop
Windows Live Mesh ActiveX Control for Remote Connections ( i consider it a security risk)
Java (TM) 6 Update 22 (64-Bit) (see above)
HP Wireless Assistant ( you should understand WiFi if you uninstall)
HP Setup (only needed during first turning on)
Windows Live Essentials 2011 (I consider this to be one giant piece of spyware from M$)

Some of the HP programs are for HP to help you resolve problems. They are resource hogs and if the system is out of warranty then you do not need them.

Why do people always bring up the native americans?

Q. Ive been searching through a lot of questions regarding immigration in western europe and America, Many individuals think that immigration should stop completely, while I don't agree that immigration should stop completely I agree that they should reduce the numbers, especially in my home country sweden where it's already hard to get a job, I simply don't understand why we should take in more than what we can take care of. And it also seems like my culture is declining. But I am getting ahead of myself here. Basically it seems like a lot of people bring up the native Americans, for example, let's say I lived in America, and let's say I would express that I wanted immigration to slow down, many people would say "Well maybe you should move back to europe, I'm pretty sure the native Americans didn't like it when your ancestors invaded their lands." I mean, first of all, why should they (Mostly white americans) be blamed for what their ancestors did? And why should we let the same mistakes happen again? What happened to the natives was horrible, why let something like that happen again? shouldn't we learn from our own mistakes instead of letting the same thing happen again? And sure, it's not like anyone is actually killing whites off, But white people are becoming a minority because of mass immigrations, many of you will probably say "what's wrong with that?" and I think a lot is wrong with that, And I don't like that the native europeans will be the minority in the future because of mass immigration.
Maybe we should focus on giving them a better life instead of talking about how horrible it was.
As stated, I live in europe, so I don't live on what happened to the natives. And I never stated that whites were natives in America. And how am I supposed to explain that? I did not write those laws, But I don't approve them at all, All women should be safe from violence. And what do you want white people to do? what happened in the past happened, it's done. Maybe we should try to prevent mass immigration from destroying another group of people, it's all about learning from past failures.

Answer
I personally would like it if "white" people gave themselves an ethnic identity and stopped referring to themselves by a perceived skin color which they do not have. Most "white" people I have met are a pinkish-peach color, lightly beige, sometimes tan. Its kinda weird that every other human being has an ethnic identity not wrapped up in groundless beliefs.

Now that THAT is out of the way...

I see you are incredibly ignorant of CURRENT issues regarding native americans. Yes, the past is the past and we can't change it now, but it IS what brought us to our present, so understanding the TRUE events of the past and not the distorted versions that are fed through the media and public school systems would be an excellent way to start abolishing ignorance and promoting understanding.

CURRENTLY, these are some of the issues Native Americans are dealing with on account of their "white" oppressors.

1. Land theft (yes, even today) http://www.democracynow.org/2012/5/11/un_probe_us_should_return_stolen http://www.nativelegalupdate.com/articles/land-use/ http://www.cradleboard.org/curriculum/powwow/lessons/highsocial/hs_con_4.html
My tribe had to go to court to get our main village sight, which had been annexed by the federal government with the promise of return when they were finished using it for military purposes. It IS to this day, our HOME. On any given day, regardless of weather, you will see Suquamish people on the shores of Old Man House beach, whether it is simply to gaze out at the water and think about their life's problems, drawing strength from the surroundings of 19,000 years worth of belonging to that exact spot, or just to have a picnic with the kids. We are always here and always have been, and always will be. And we had to sue the government to force them to recognize this. http://www.yesmagazine.org/issues/healing-resistance/going-home
2. Resources- when we GAVE the federal government the rights to a percentage of our natural resources (again, legally we are recognized as the legal owners of our natural resources) we reserved a percentage to remain in our posession. These resources are constantly being stolen as well, in this day in age, by non-natives alive at this very moment (though most are unaware) http://www.assatashakur.org/forum/afrikan-world-news/9751-government-steals-natives-resources.html http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.culturechange.org%2Fcms%2Fcontent%2Fview%2F336%2F65%2F&ei=mwoHUIDEB4jNqgGc44HHCA&usg=AFQjCNEwXjpu4O8sY7feaC3-dmh782MyXw
3. Monitary Theft- Native americans are the only ethnic group specifically targeted for the theft of INDIVIDUAL trust accounts, that means any native american person as an individual human being is targeted in this scheme simply due to their ethnicity and financial resources. Senator John McCain is the ONLY politician I have ever heard of that openly criticized the Federal government for this. http://www.monitor.net/monitor/free/biatrustfund.html
4. Physical violence against native americans goes unpunished- http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/10/993043/-Skinheads-Hunt-Native-American-Family-Guess-Who-Gets-Arrested

My own father was out walking his dog one night in his quiet, suburban neighborhood and stopped at a local gas station to get a snack. On his way home, he was jumpped, beaten, stabbed and left for dead. They didn't even take his wallet, and called him a "filthy indian". They had an army bumper sticker on their truck and were wearing their uniforms. NOTHING happened to them, the investigation was closed within 24 hours, even though the security cameras at the gas station clearly caught the image of the truck and the military housing unit the truck drove off to was within 1/2 mile of where the incident took place.

http://lockergnome.net/questions/187031/nvidia-gt-650m-vs-the-gtx-660
