Can motion sensors be hooked up to video cameras?

I think it will be less expensive to buy a security camera with a DVR - and in the DVR options there can be "motion detection" settings. Lorex, Swann, Owl, Lillin, Z-Modo and many others include the motion detect option in their DVRs...

The issue with using a camcorder or camera is after a period of non-use, they generally want to go to sleep to conserve battery power. By the time the motion sensor device woke up the camera and started video capture, it is likely the cause of the motion would be gone.

within the past month, eighteen homes in our neighborhood have been broken into when the owners weren't home. they have no idea who is doing it, we're about to go to nyc for two weeks, and we REALLY need a security camera (or more than one) to record while we're gone.
cost doesn't really matter as long as it's not insane, but something that has motion detection and records when it detects any motion?

Today, its not the security camera that has a motion sensor but the DVR. Basically, you run your security camera and set your DVR to automatically begin recording when it notices pixel change. You can then set a time limit after pixel change has stopped for the DVR to stop recording. So, lets say someone walks into your home. The DVR will begin recording the feed. Then, the person leaves two minutes later. You set your stop to 30 sec. So, 30 sec. after the person leaves and pixel changes have stopped, the DVR will stop recording.

Which camera would be best for my garden to record videos and take pictures of foxes etc, as we have foxes in our garden most the time, but I want to see what else I might be missing at night.

Now the benefits of going with a CCTV system is that you can view the feed remotely from your iPhone/Android or the internet. The other benefit is that you can get more cameras to monitor more areas and a way bigger hard drive to record more video. An actually CCTV system will give you more control over the surveillance than just the average wildlife camera.

So I am planning on pulling a senior prank, I will not lie to you. But I am absolutely not going to do something bad. I want to go into the Principal's office and literally just take all the books, computers, folders, papers, and everything and just set up her room on the stage in the auditorium. I am telling you this in the hope that you believe me and will trust me with some information.

1st: Do most high schools have motion detectors?
2nd: Do they have any other kind of visual equipment other than regular video?
3rd: Once inside the doors, are there any alarms that need to be worried about?
4th: What is the best way to stop a door from locking? Just a normal door (aka duct tape etc)

Plenty of schools have security systems, and those systems generally include door sensors, motions sensors, glass break detectors, and even cameras - and the cameras are not always visible. Some cameras are triggered by motion - that either starts the recording, or causes someone in a remote location to start viewing what is happening. These systems cost money, which is why the answer for your school depends on the how advanced the school is, how concerned about security, etc. Some times the door sensors are recessed, so you cannot even see them.There are many possibilities here.

In other words, it's almost impossible to say what you may be facing. Few schools that I am aware of go without any system, but when it comes to protecting interior spaces, such as the principal's office, it is very difficult to tell. Sorry, but you may want to rethink this one...

You are correct in that most security camera systems can alert your smartphone but the system has to be attached to the internet to do so. This may be an issue in your shop if you don't have an internet line you can run to the Security DVR. This is the same issue with a wireless system. They must be connected to a network in order to work so you must have a wireless network already installed for the Wi-Fi cameras to work. Wireless is also way more expensive whereas a wired system doesn't need a network installed in order to work (unless you want to view the video remotely from your phone or internet).

I have a google tv and I just ordered a day and night motion sensor pinhole camera and the Chords that came with the camera don't seem to hook up to any of my plugs and I'm not sure if its a wireless camera can someone please help me it's driving me crazy

First off thank you very much for your assistance. I recently purchase a short sale and am doing a lot of remodeling and while I am doing it, I figured that with the rewiring etc that I am already doing, I may as well go ahead and run additional wires and do home automation. I will basically be adding to it piece by piece over the next two years or so as I remodel each room.

I am fairly tech savy, but do not know hot to do nuts and bolts computer programming.

Features I would Like:

- The ability to add on as I remodel room to room.
- The ability to access remotely (Iphone, web, etc)
- I do want some switches like for blinds but also want them to be centrally controlled.
- I want to be able to use timers for things like blinds, lights, stereos, sprinkler system, etc.
