how to set up a security camera system?

Q.

Answer
1.Determine where security cameras should be placed. For the home and the business, any areas that have high traffic or items of value are prime locations for cameras. Also, consider placing cameras where break-ins or acts of vandalism are more likely to occur.

2.Optimize camera placement. Once you have determined where the cameras should go, plan for the least amount of wiring and the widest viewing angles for each camera. Since there are only so many cameras included per kit, it is best to utilize each one as much as possible before resorting to purchasing additional cameras to connect to the camera control unit.

wal mart theft and their security cameras?

Q. a buddy of mine got arrested for shop lifting from a local wal mart supercenter recentally. they are saying it was from something he stole like 8 months ago and he is being charged with a felony 5. does anyone know how much dollar amount makes it a felony in ohio and does anyone know anything about wal mart security cameras and how they may have caught him and/or why it took this long?

Answer
"If the value of the property of services stolen is five hundred dollars or more and is less than five thousand dollars or if the property stolen is [a credit card, check, license plate, vehicle title, license form], a violation of this section is theft, a felony of the fifth degree."

$5K-100K ===> grand theft, a felony of the fourth degree
$100k-500K ===> aggravated theft, a felony of the third degree
$500K-$1M ===> aggravated theft, a felony of the second degree
More than $1M ===> aggravated theft, a felony of the first degree

As far as the timing of the charge goes, realize the company must first determine something is missing (at inventory time or when reordering, perhaps), then figure out approximately when it was stolen, check the tapes for the deed, try to identify the thief, and make an appropriate report to the police/prosecutor. The prosecutor must decide whether to file the charges and the police must pick him up. In other words, it can take a while.

How much jail time can my ex-girlfriend get?

Citisclose

Hello,

I caught my ex-girlfriend stealing from my video game collection that has been appraised for a value of $600,000. I have her on video tape from my security camera of her taking several rare video game memorabilia, and rare video game consoles. She stole approximately $4,500 worth of collectibles, how much jail time can she get if I decide to press charges?
This is in the state of New York.

Answer
Grand larceny, which is a felony. I suggest speaking to her and giving her a chance to give it back. If not, file a police report and they will pick her up. Be sure you can prove your stuff is worth that much to the police, if not they might not do anything about it. They might tell you to take her to small claims.

Do you need a phone line for a home security system?

Just curious, we have a little office space, but are using cell phones - haven't hooked up a phone line. I want to get the "Mace Wireless Home Security System" from Walmart, but do I need a phone line for that to work? It dials numbers so I'm assuming it has to be connected to a phone line. Just wondering because I can't buy it from the store, so I need to know ahead of time if I'm in for making another bill for phone service.

Answer
Some types of security systems you do need a phone line, like the one you want. Note that these systems almost always require a monthly fee & contract.

I would personally recommend a 4 Camera CCTV harddrive system as the specifications have recently gotten much more advanced, and they are extremely good value. You can get 4 NV cameras, cables and processor/harddrive unit for about $600, but you can find them for less.

I would alsrecommendnd PIR Halogen lights for outside, as they are very inexpensive.

If you are on a seriously tight budget I have seen extremelyRealisticc dome CCTV dummy cameras for about $2, but make sure that it has no flashing red light, as this is a dead give away to criminals; real security cameras never have flashing LEDs.

Hope that helps.

How do I lock up my potted plants so they dont get stolen from the yard?

SailorBoy

Nice pot ($60). valuale japanese maple (sentimental value). Heard of lots of ripoffs in neighborhood (an ok one). How to do it without making it look tacky?

Answer
actually i have heard of this
the people i have seen glue a chain to the bottom of the pot and attach it to the deck rail or a stake in the yard
i think it is better not to spend 60 on a pot either plant the plant or make your own pots it will be a personal touch and cheep
i would also have security cameras if i lived in an area that was so dangerous not even the plants were safe :)

How does ADT home alarm security work please?

.

Can you leave your windows open if you go out or if your even in? Like on a very hot day when I sleep in my bedroom I need my bedroom window open, would this affect on how a home security system would operate over night?

Answer
I was an ADT sales manager for several years. Here is the way it works. They come and install a minimal security system in your home- and may just give you the security system if you sign their monitoring agreement, which is likely about $35.00 a month for two or three years. That's $1,260.00. It will be by direct deposit from your checking account- and it will turn out to be impossible for you to stop even after the three years. You'll have to practically take them to court to stop them- even though the contract says 36 months only (it is not against the criminal law, and the banks will not be any help). ADT is basically a "peace of mind" gimmick. It is the little sign in the yard that deterrs most criminals. You can actually do yourself a vafor and buy a small, easy to install security system, which comes with a yard sign for your front yard and it will monitor your home wirelessly- it is very easy to install yoruself. If it detects an intruder, it will call your cell phone, alert you to the intrusion, and can even show you a scan of your home from your computer's camera or a small, inexpensive camera that comes with the system. Once you see what's going on, you can call the cops and ask them to check out your home. The deterrent value of the yard sign is really all you need. The DIY systems I have seen are about $200.00 to $350.00- , they are easy to install, wireless (basically, just hand up the sensors and turn it on) and they will not rob your bank account for ten years!

Do stores like Walgreen's care if you steal small things like playing cards?

Beverly

My friend stole 4 decks of cards in different times from the same Walgreen's every time and never got caught. One was on august the other November then February and today. Doesn't Walgreen's have security cameras watching you? So do thy even care?

Answer
Yea obviously shoplifting is illegal and people get charged.

Starts early and small then escalates into hell.

Taken from a forum search.

"Today I was caught shoplifting from Hollister a hat at 24.50 retail value. This is in Michigan. They told me I would pay 10x the amount of the item no more then 200$. This is my first offense other than a traffic ticket. The cop said he would summon me in the mail for court and what not. What am I looking at here? Jail? How much money? I'm so scared i cant eat, sleep, do anything to get my mind of how afraid I am and how dumb it was. A simple lapse in judgment. I am 19 and its a first time offense, so I was thinking maybe community service? plea for a lesser charge? i don't know anything but a shoplifting misdemeanor."

Answer:

"hey i know how you may feel. I just got caught a few days ago for shoplifting as well. I am a full-time college student with really good grades. I don't know what i was thinking that day that i stole. I ended up getting caught and they put me in handcuffs. i thought i was going to jail. This was my first offense and i have no prior criminal history so the cops let me go with a citation. My court date is next month an i am so scared. The thing i stole was only $49.00 and heard that the fine can be anywhere from $250-$500 hopefully no more. Plus an additional charge from the court but im not so sure of that, that is just what other people have been explained to me. Plus i have to pay a civil demand to the store that's probably another $200-$300. i know what i do was really wrong and stupid and i truly am sorry. i just don't have enough money to pay for all the fines and don't know what will happen to me i was hoping the judge would let me do more community service. i cant even afford a lawyer, i have heard if you cant get your own the court will provide you with one. I know i am guilty. hope everything goes good for you, people have been telling me not to worry that its just a misdemeanor and that the punishment wont be that bad, but i don't know, i have learned my less, i know this will stay on my record for life, i haven't been sleeping good this past few night. Last monday I stole a deck of cards from a Riteaid and now I'm facing 52 days in jail because
of prior offenses."
