I have a security camera DVR with a Western Digital 500GB HD. It won't turn on when the HD is plugged in, but when I unplug the Hd it works perfectly.

Maybe your camera DVR is only SD.

Security camera dvr private ip address always changes?

I have a security camera dvr that is being port forward on a static ip address, so the public ip address never changes, however, the private ip address (example: 192.168.1.4) always changes. So when I try to view remotely, it does not work, and I have to go back to the dvr and change my ports to the new ip address. This is very annoying, what is the fix to this?

What is assigning the camera a dynamic IP? Can't the camera be forced to have a static IP (either at the firmware level or through a utility) and if not, can't whatever is assigning the IP (the DNS server, for example) be set to *not* assign an IP from the pool?

I've worked for two security companies that both used IP cameras in their CCTV systems. We almost always used Panasonic cameras and they had a static IP by default, but you could also access the settings through a browser to set a static IP as well.

What is the best camera for streaming video on a website for cost and functionality?

Here is what I want to do: I have a contract to create a website for someone who wants to have 24-hour streaming live video of a bridge construction site. The camera that my client has is a security camera and won't work for this project, so I have to find a new one. I would prefer something that is plug-and-play or easy to set up. It would probably be set up outdoors, though a cover could be built and it would need to be able to have some zoom capability. What camera would be the best solution for both cost and functionality? I am a member of a volunteer fire dept. and we have some security cameras. It is hooked up to a VCR and we need to upgrade it to the computer. Is there a program where the cameras can be recorded onto the computer?

We've found Milestone's Xprotect program to be the most flexible solution for all of our surveillance camera installs because it isn't proprietary or locked into any specific brand of camera. It's got a ton of features, plus I think at the moment they are still having a promotion where you can download the single-camera licence for free.

They also just released an "Enterprise" version which you pay the licence for on a per-camera basis instead of a 4-camera licence or something minimum when you don't have that many cameras. Check out their website to see if the promotion is still running.
