Say; a public toilet or a train toilet: I don't believe they have security camera's, but how do they prevent vandalism, public sex or even bomb placement in these toilets?
I mean camera's should be breach of privacy, right?

Answer
Security cameras can be placed outside the toilet to see who goes in and out of the restroom. That's really as far as they can go.

what are my rights with our neighbours filming our garden with a video camera watching us ?

Rebecca

While jumping on our garden trampoline today, I noticed a red light coming from next doors bird box, and realised it must have been a video camera, filming me and my eight year old son. What are my rights over privacy?

Answer
Not much you can do about it, but you better make sure you know what you saw before you go and accuse people of anything.

The placement of the camera (if that is what you saw) would probably be legal, just like a security camera. The fact that it points towards your house or backyard doesn't matter. Unless you have a 9 foot privacy fence, and the camera is placed solely to record you over that fence.

I have an infrared security camera that is having issues with "seeing" through a window after dark. Would installing a separate infrared light outside the window fix this or would it be a waste of money?

Answer
More than likely, it would be a waste of money.

With security cameras, indoor cameras take care of the inside and outdoor camera, well... are for the outside. If your worried about the camera being outside, put it in a vandal proof housing in a discrete location.

Don't be so cheap. There are lots of cheap wireless security systems out there. You're asking the impossible.

Year of the rat. What will it bring for Arians?

best home security camera placement on Video Surveillance Best Practices: What Works - Article - Campus ...
best home security camera placement image
Q. Since 2008 is year of the rat (or is it), what will the year bring for rats or Arians?

Answer
The Sign of Aries: is the sign of action. Any planet found there will be hyped up and forced to act continuously in overdrive.

The Sun in Aries: tends to make the entire character lean towards action and initiative. When the Con Edison utility company put its first woman to work on a street crew years ago, the TV cameras were there to cover it. They showed the woman operating a jackhammer and then they interviewed her. On her coveralls was a large button saying simply "ARIES". When the reporter commented on it, the woman said: "Yeah, I like to be first".

The Moon in Aries: can be much more emotional than the Sun in Aries. The temper inclines to be short, but, as is typical with Aries, it doesnât last long. Tomorrow, they will be fighting about something else. It is said that you canât persuade anyone with an Aries Moon that they are wrong because, by the time youâve gotten your arguments together, theyâve already acted on whatever it was and gone on to something new. The women in the life tend to be Aries types, active and aggressive.

Mercury in Aries: activates the mind. Mercury here doesnât just study or investigate subjects. It attacks them. If the Sun happens to be in a slower, more methodical sign. like Taurus, the mind could be said to run ahead of the person, darting from conclusion to conclusion before the body manages to catch up.

Venus in Aries: activates the expression of affection. Liz Taylor has this placement (and her Venus sits close to Uranus, planet of sudden, unexpected change; what a surprise). So did Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow. Julian Armistead once gave a lecture on Liz Taylorâs horoscope. He pointed out that Venus in Aries people need constant excitement in relationships. When things finally slow down and get comfortable, they start looking elsewhere.

Mars in Aries: You might say that Mars is at home here since it is the "ruler" of this sign. And Mars in Aries does tend to give extra energy as well as a constant need for activity. Mars shows the type of action we take, our style of action. In Aries, it is impulsive, tending to charge right in. People with this placement have to learn about "staying power" and sticking with something until it is finished.

Jupiter in Aries: Jupiter is where we feel safe and secure, optimistic and lucky. In Aries, that means we feel good when we take initiative, lucky when we charge right in. Jupiter also shows something about our religious and philosophical beliefs, our ability to get the "big picture" rather than those little details. In Aries, that means we have to grasp them fast. If it takes too long, we get bored and move on.

Saturn in Aries: Saturn shows where we feel UN-safe and IN-secure. Its sign position shows what we absolutely must have to feel security and safety. In Aries, that means initiative. The worst thing you can say to a Saturn in Aries person is " Sit there and wait; Iâll take care of it". They will climb the walls. Waiting on line is another thing that they absolutely cannot stand. Does anybody like to wait on line? Not really, but hey, it happens. So get over it, right? Not for a Saturn in Aries person. To feel safe and secure, they must have the initiative. Saturn in Aries is prone to headaches and problems with the teeth, especially the upper teeth.

Uranus in Aries: Uranus is a planet of independence, innovation, and genius. It is very comfortable here in the sign of new beginnings. Be careful of something else, however, that can come from all of this haste. Accidents. Unless something else in the horoscope can moderate this placement, excessive haste can be a problem. This is a superior position, though, for coming up with inventions and ideas that can be innovative to the point of being shocking.

Neptune in Aries: increases the activity of the imagination. Neptune stays in a sign for about 14 years and therefore affects a whole generation at a time. Some astrologers tend to minimize the sign position of the outer three planets because of this. I disagree. Sign position is ALWAYS important. Neptune in Aries causes the imagination to be excitable, sometimes excessively. Not bad if Neptune has some moderating influences.

Pluto in Aries: Pluto is where we can go to extremes. Aries is where we take action. If you think that this makes for self-involved people who are prone to take extreme action, you are right. Those born in the 1830âs and 1840âs had this placement. When they grew up, they became a very optimistic, can-do generation.

Does anyone know about this? ?

Survelliance Cameras?
I have asked this question before, but recieved no answer. I am wondering how good are surviellance cameras at night, with not a lot of light. I am asking about fixed positioned cameras that you see on the side of most building, that are not monitored by a person. A camera that is unable to zoom and pan. Without a person monitoring them so they can zoom in are they able to get good images, such as facial features, or are they more of a deterrent then anything.

I am trying to inquire information, to see if it would be worth using outside of a friends bar were cars have been getting broke into. The parking lot does not have many lights. So would this even be worth it without adequate lighting. I would like to be able to identfy the suspect since our police dept. does not usually respond to these calls unless it is in progress.
Would a camera like this be good enough to identify a suspect from a distance of about 20ft. Most footage I have seen on the net and tv, and from experience don't show real clear pictures, unless it is zoomed in. Is this the norm, even in the day time.

Answer
You can opt to use a home security video camera that records in black and white or in color. You can also buy cameras that have other features. Some cameras can record activities in complete darkness using night vision. This is great because intruders will not be able to see the exact placement of a home security video camera in the dark. Night vision technology itself has also advanced and can now record video in the dark in full color as opposed to the green colored night vision of the past.

What are the benefits of owning an apple mac instead of a regular pc? Just want to know if it's features are worth paying a little extra for a macbook?

Answer
The only possible advantage of the Mac is running OS X LEGALLY (most newer PCs can run it but it is illegal).. This is not much of an advantage.. read below...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think.. http://blogs.eweek.com/applewatch/content/channel/should_you_pay_twice_as_much_for_a_mac.html

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :
Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.
1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.
2) Supports more devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer).
3) More business software/games
4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.
5) Used by businesses.

ADVANTAGES LINUX :
1) FREE (most versions are)
2) Install software by either 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)
2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3gkX9HDfEE (there is no flickering when you use it like on the video, not sure why the person has the flicker)
3) Mac OS X Doc? google/yahoo Avant Window Navigator.Cairo Dock, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3rf5q_cairo-dock-mac-os-x-leopard-dock-on_tech
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0hzi22g2DE
4) It is FASTER/MORE SECURE to surf on the internet
5) Some Windows programs work with Wnehq/Crossover (also avail on Mac, but why pay $$$)

SECURITY
Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.
Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

VIRUSES
Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

QUALITY/PROBLEMS
Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

Why do so many people hate Apple and Macs for stupid reasons?

Unspeakabl

Okay I've been a Mac user for a year and I think it is so much more useful than a PC. They have also made lots of things. They basically made the mouse for your computer so without them we might have not even had a mouse by now.

Then people say they are stupid because apparently now they can't double click which they can.

I know it's your opinion, but I just want to know why even though this is a stupid question.

Also please don't answer this if you haven't even used or heard of a mac.

PRICE
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

**(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: (At The Moment) Specs Below costs $809
CPU: 2.4 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: 3GB Ram
HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 16x DVD/CD Read/Writer
GRAPHICS: (upgrade to ) ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1400)
CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)

Does anyone know anything about the Swann Sportscam mini?

best security camera dvr review image

Josh Paczk

Swann Communications SportsCam DVR-460 Waterproof Digital Camcorder if anyone knows anything about this like how long it last the other accesories you can buy how it works underwater. i would want to use to for fishing in lakes which aren't that clear so could somebody help with that to and or maybe deer hunting could i attach it to my shotgun easily? if anyone knows a good review or could post a video in water or anything

-thanks-

Answer
Hi Josh:

The Swann company has around for 25 years (mostly producing security cameras & recorders), but only in the mini-camcorder business for a little over a year. Their initial model, the DVR-460, is affordably priced ($65-$99 street) and has had good reviews, but I get kinda worried when I can't find a model on the company's own website! (Other than press releases from last year.) When I clicked on "Mini Video Series" from the main Swann homepage menu, the results page says "Result found 0 item(s)".

It shoots Standard Def video, and is good for 65ft of depth (in the included underwater case) and a fully charged battery (internal, non-changeable) lets it run about 2â2.5 hours. The largest micro-SD card it takes is 16Gb, which will hold about 5 hours of video. It takes still photos @ 1280x960 pixels.

The only accessory that doesn't come with it is the surfboard mount (which is a permanent mount kit). It comes with various straps, Velcro, and clips for body/helmet mounting, and something called a "multi-bracket" with two screws. Unlike the GoPro, I don't think there's a selection of suction cup and other vehicle mounts.

There's no moving parts (even the lens is fixed-focus) so it should stand the recoil of a shotgun mount, but I don't know if the electret microphone element will handle the repeated SPL level of gunblast.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

How do you delete the records on a CCTV?

:]

Answer
It depends on the system.

With analog cameras feeding video to a surveillance VHS tape recording device, you need access to the tape and the special VHS recorder. Generally, the tapes store multiple cameras' video, spans multiple days or weeks and a regular VHS tape player can't deal with the video - so you need the special VHS player. Then you need to find the segment to be deleted, then press record with no other inputs... The deletion will be very obvious to anyone reviewing the video. Under certain conditions this analog information on the tape can be recovered using very sophisticated equipment.

With analog cameras feeding video to a surveillance Digital Video Recording (DVR) device, you need access to the DVR. Sometimes the DVR needs a special client to manipulate or watch the video. Sometimes the DVR video can be accessed using a browser. In both cases, you need a computer on the same network as the DVR, typically you need a password or two to get into that networ, then a different password to get to the video in the DVR. Generally, the DVR will also be physically secured thought the DVR will also have controls on the front of the DVR that have the same capabilities the client or browser adminitrator contrals have. And the assumption is the video has not already been copied to an external hard drive, because if that has happened, then getting to that for deletion is needed.

With IP network based camcorders video set to and stored on a video server, you need access to the video server. This will require access using a computer on the same network as the video server, multiple layers of security - or just getting to the server and logging in as an administrator. Because the cameras and video server are on an IP network, it is possible that the video server storing the video is located in another city or country. It is also possible that there are multiple servers storing the video. And, it is poaaible that the video is backed up to another computer or digital tape as part of a regular network routine.

There are a few other possibilites, but these should cover most of them.

Since you did not tell us where the CCTV is, the nature of the surveillance coverage are, who or what is responsible for the CCTV system's maintenance and proper operation and a boatload of other items, we have no idea how sophisticated of a system it *might* be.

It is also possible that the video from the cameras is "observe only" and there is no video storage at all...

business question "antique mall owner needing security camera system" which is the best to buy?

best security camera system on the market image

sbarber

Just trying to get input from someone that has an antique mall of similar business. I want to purchase a camera system that I can set up in "EACH" booth or atleast every other booth. Some can be dummies but I would like for atleast half of them to be the real deal. I ahve heard of dealers using globes and dummy cameras to deter thieves; does this work?
What system would you recommend and please don't say a 10,000 one, I cant afford that at the moment.

Answer
Hello

Dummy cameras are the worst possible they don't provide security and if someone is injured or claims to be injured in your store they can sue for providing a false sense of security. No professional security installer uses dummy cameras.

Here is a DVR that will work perfectly for you.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com/x4s.htm

I would recommend a Standalone DVR as they are more reliable and since they are linux based they are virus ans spy ware free.

The X4S Series DVR is an intelligent and professional CCTV management solution, integrating the latest technology and the most advanced features while maintaining a simple, intuitive, and graphical interface. The X4S Series DVR is a 24/7 turn key solution that meets demanding security needs to suit industrial and commercial applications. The X4S DVR is compatible with the X4 platform, allowing it to act as an IP server, while still remaining a standalone solution and allows you to view your cameras instantly over the internet with a PC or cell phone like the I-phone.

also here is some information on DVR and cameras you may want to read before buying a CCTV system.

Not all DVRs and security equipment are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

I suggest you buy a PC based DVR has they have more processing power and normally have a much smaller file size and offer more features then Standalone DVR's. I know many people buy a cheap standalone DVR, only to upgrade to a PC based in 6 months especially when they are using it to manage a store remotely. Also PC based allows you to record up to 64 cameras where a standalone will have a limit of 16.

Many people have the misconception that a PC-Based DVR is simply an off-the-shelf PC with video capture (encoder) cards, display (decoder) cards and some generic OEM software. A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day. This makes consumer-level hardware inadequate for DVRs which is why Ascendent uses custom-built PCs with performance-level hardware.

My personal favorite DVR is Ascendent X4 series: Ascendentâs Tri-Fusion Hybrid Platform allows for the creation of a true hybrid surveillance system by utilizing the advantages of Analog, Megapixel, and IP technologies for unparalleled customization and expandability.

The X4 also uses the latest H.264/SVC codec offer video substantially better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

File size is crucial to streaming because most DVRâs on the market record at real time performance (30FPS per channel) so on a 4CH is trying to send 120, 8CH 240, and a 16CH 480 images per second which requires way too much bandwidth even for the most extreme internet connections.

The smaller the files size the more images are able to be sent, and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities, as it also determines the recording storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video. The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most important spec of any DVR.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest you ask for a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVRs say they have remote viewing but it is often too slow and laggy to be of any use especially if it is a standalone. Some good DVR brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent. These brands are what security professionals use.

I recommend Ascendent as they are less expensive because they cameras for companies like Bosch and Pelco and offer better performance but any of these 3 brands will work well.

These brand manufacturers also have a complete line of CCTV cameras and DVR for any application from residential to military and stand behind there warranties. You want to get a good bran name otherwise you will likely buy a product that work and cant be returned.

Does a security camera that uploads to a web server or ftp without a computer exist?

Striker

I want to have an always-on motion activated security camera that supports wifi or even wired ethernet that can upload to a web server or ftp. I don't want to leave my computer on all the time.

Answer
Yes. They are called IP or Network cameras.

http://video-insight.com/Purchase/Security-Cameras/IP-Cameras.aspx

Here are a few. I actually work for this company. Funny I ran across your post while answering miscellaneous questions. If you ordered from us, your camera would likely pass through my hands.

Another guy mentioned Netbotz. They are proprietary. If you want temperature readings from them, you need to buy their whole system. If you're going to do that, they are not the best. Pelco dominates the high end of this market, but they cost a fortune. If you want what you asked for which is just a camera by itself with a lot of uploading options and motion detection, I suggest a network camera by Toshiba, Canon, Axis, or Vivotek. If you want insane resolution as well, look at IQ Eye (but costly).

I want to watch live video (security camera) on the screen of my desktop PC at home, from my mobile device (symbian OS or WindowsCE) using internet GPRS connection. Which remote administration web services suitable to do this?

note: I want to avoid streaming video from the local PC when I'm not connected (to save bandwith), and refresh rate of 5-10 seconds would be sufficient. Any suggestions?

What is the best home security camera?

Dragonfly

I am looking for a system of 3 cameras, that can record directly onto the internet. I would like to have something that is good in the dark and also has a good resolution.

Does anyone have any suggestions, because I have no idea where to start. Thanks so much!

Answer
Hello

CNB cameras are not high end and are made in china,

Spyville just sell products made in china and are also quite low quality.

Most IR cameras do not give good images in the dark specially cameras under $200. Many companies claim good night vision but there are only a handful of brands who give night vision over 30 feet out doors. normally if a cameras is rated 150 feet of IR it will give you ok images at 30 feet at night and good images at about 20 if rated for 60 feet you might get 15 indoors and will be useless outdoors.

2 Great IR outdoor cameras

Economical DVR's
Two good economical DVRs I would recommend are Ascendent's AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco's DX-400. The AVP-4120 uses the latest H.264 codec to improve streaming and recording time, and will allow PCs and smart phones to remotely view and control your cameras. These are the DVRs I would recommend that are good quality and affordable from companies who stand behind there products.

Always buy DVR and security equipment from a good brand name manufacturer like Pleco, Bosch, Honeywell and Ascendent: http://www.ascendentgroup.com

Unfortunately many people buy very low end systems which have poor frame rate and bad image quality because they buy from Amazon, "spy stores" Lorex, Q-see, NCIX, new-egg, and other online retailers who sell cheap products for china there were never intended to be anything more then a nany cam and should never be used to provide security.

Not all DVRs are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $100.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means itâs not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

DVRs need to be good quality as they run 24/7 (20X more than the average electronic device) and process anywhere from 30-480 frames per second which in a year is over 15 billion images, and a good DVR should last 3-5 years.

Again if you are going to buy no name products save money and get dummy cameras they are just as affective and you will be less disappointed.

Hope this Helps,

I'm guessing if performance is important, you'll want the best graphics. Other than that, your choke point would be load speeds from the hard drive, but that's only really on program load, not running. Gaming is going to be the highest demand on your system, and it will be faster on just about everything else then. If you get the matte finish lenovos, those are higher quality, but the shiny cased ones are good, just lower end. HP has no easy gauge like that that I know of. Most laptops are built by a few companies in asia regardless of the branding, and so your machine might be hp or lenovo but built by one of the same factories. The system components are what's important, and the quality control.

I've heard good things about lenovo. Hinges on screen can cause problems, but that's with any laptop. I like my macbook, but going by the specs you've put down, go with the lenovo.

Why do people always bring up the native americans?

Q. Ive been searching through a lot of questions regarding immigration in western europe and America, Many individuals think that immigration should stop completely, while I don't agree that immigration should stop completely I agree that they should reduce the numbers, especially in my home country sweden where it's already hard to get a job, I simply don't understand why we should take in more than what we can take care of. And it also seems like my culture is declining. But I am getting ahead of myself here. Basically it seems like a lot of people bring up the native Americans, for example, let's say I lived in America, and let's say I would express that I wanted immigration to slow down, many people would say "Well maybe you should move back to europe, I'm pretty sure the native Americans didn't like it when your ancestors invaded their lands." I mean, first of all, why should they (Mostly white americans) be blamed for what their ancestors did? And why should we let the same mistakes happen again? What happened to the natives was horrible, why let something like that happen again? shouldn't we learn from our own mistakes instead of letting the same thing happen again? And sure, it's not like anyone is actually killing whites off, But white people are becoming a minority because of mass immigrations, many of you will probably say "what's wrong with that?" and I think a lot is wrong with that, And I don't like that the native europeans will be the minority in the future because of mass immigration.
Maybe we should focus on giving them a better life instead of talking about how horrible it was.
As stated, I live in europe, so I don't live on what happened to the natives. And I never stated that whites were natives in America. And how am I supposed to explain that? I did not write those laws, But I don't approve them at all, All women should be safe from violence. And what do you want white people to do? what happened in the past happened, it's done. Maybe we should try to prevent mass immigration from destroying another group of people, it's all about learning from past failures.

Answer
I personally would like it if "white" people gave themselves an ethnic identity and stopped referring to themselves by a perceived skin color which they do not have. Most "white" people I have met are a pinkish-peach color, lightly beige, sometimes tan. Its kinda weird that every other human being has an ethnic identity not wrapped up in groundless beliefs.

Now that THAT is out of the way...

I see you are incredibly ignorant of CURRENT issues regarding native americans. Yes, the past is the past and we can't change it now, but it IS what brought us to our present, so understanding the TRUE events of the past and not the distorted versions that are fed through the media and public school systems would be an excellent way to start abolishing ignorance and promoting understanding.

CURRENTLY, these are some of the issues Native Americans are dealing with on account of their "white" oppressors.

1. Land theft (yes, even today) http://www.democracynow.org/2012/5/11/un_probe_us_should_return_stolen http://www.nativelegalupdate.com/articles/land-use/ http://www.cradleboard.org/curriculum/powwow/lessons/highsocial/hs_con_4.html
My tribe had to go to court to get our main village sight, which had been annexed by the federal government with the promise of return when they were finished using it for military purposes. It IS to this day, our HOME. On any given day, regardless of weather, you will see Suquamish people on the shores of Old Man House beach, whether it is simply to gaze out at the water and think about their life's problems, drawing strength from the surroundings of 19,000 years worth of belonging to that exact spot, or just to have a picnic with the kids. We are always here and always have been, and always will be. And we had to sue the government to force them to recognize this. http://www.yesmagazine.org/issues/healing-resistance/going-home
2. Resources- when we GAVE the federal government the rights to a percentage of our natural resources (again, legally we are recognized as the legal owners of our natural resources) we reserved a percentage to remain in our posession. These resources are constantly being stolen as well, in this day in age, by non-natives alive at this very moment (though most are unaware) http://www.assatashakur.org/forum/afrikan-world-news/9751-government-steals-natives-resources.html http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.culturechange.org%2Fcms%2Fcontent%2Fview%2F336%2F65%2F&ei=mwoHUIDEB4jNqgGc44HHCA&usg=AFQjCNEwXjpu4O8sY7feaC3-dmh782MyXw
3. Monitary Theft- Native americans are the only ethnic group specifically targeted for the theft of INDIVIDUAL trust accounts, that means any native american person as an individual human being is targeted in this scheme simply due to their ethnicity and financial resources. Senator John McCain is the ONLY politician I have ever heard of that openly criticized the Federal government for this. http://www.monitor.net/monitor/free/biatrustfund.html
4. Physical violence against native americans goes unpunished- http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/10/993043/-Skinheads-Hunt-Native-American-Family-Guess-Who-Gets-Arrested

My own father was out walking his dog one night in his quiet, suburban neighborhood and stopped at a local gas station to get a snack. On his way home, he was jumpped, beaten, stabbed and left for dead. They didn't even take his wallet, and called him a "filthy indian". They had an army bumper sticker on their truck and were wearing their uniforms. NOTHING happened to them, the investigation was closed within 24 hours, even though the security cameras at the gas station clearly caught the image of the truck and the military housing unit the truck drove off to was within 1/2 mile of where the incident took place.

Can I use a GoPro as a temporary security camera?

Andy

Someone has been stealing snacks from my dorm. My plan is to set up a GoPro Hero 3 as a temporary security camera to catch the culprit (I'm basically like Sherlock Holmes, only cooler). Some general questions:

-how long would the battery last?
-or, could I run it while plugged in?
-how much footage (in time) could I fit on a 32GB memory card?
-is there any free software I could use to quickly zoom through the footage for motion?

Answer
Since it's a common camera, you can't settle it in one place,so people can easily move it.
There are quite some security camera options when you get time to have one.

this zmodo product is an option,it enables you to access the footage anywhere at your smartphoe/tablet.

What's a good, inexpensive home network security camera?

Tyler M

We're looking to set up an inexpensive network security camera in our home. I already have ethernet wiring in most of the house, and a Windows 2003 server that could run any software required to record video. I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive IP-based security camera. Any recommendations ?

Answer
I would recommend that you read up on video surveillance. there are lots of security cameras in the market that can specialize in a variety of things. there are simple ones that simply records videos while there are others that have night vision which is good for dimly lit environment. here's a good site to start on: http://www.video-surveillance-guide.com

my ahdr16-80 cctv dvr just stopped working....its plugged in and no power?

Answer
its a standalone DVR made by ademco that only does 60 frames per seconds.

Its an old DVR and needs to be replaces it cant be repaired and if it can its not worth it.

You will need to get a new one but the good news is they are much more affordable then they were 3-4 years ago and offer better image quality higher frames and allow you to connect remotely.

not to mention DVR now day are easy to use.

here is a post I did earler you may find it handy as you are probably looking for a new DVR.

If you are looking at CCTV equipment here is an earlier post.

These brand manufacturers also have a complete line of CCTV cameras and DVR for any application from residential to military and stand behind there warranties.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com (Recommend)
http://www.honeywell.com
www.pleco.com/
http://www.bosch.com

Ascendent Technology Group 's has a really good 4 camera package for around $500.00 and will sell direct if they don't have a dealer in your area.

http://ascendentdvr.com/cctvpackages/avpâ¦

Not all CCTV equipment is created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance take cars for example. In the world of CCTV you can find the equivalent of a $2,000 golf cart and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels but that's where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts.

95% of all wireless cameras are compete junk and any wireless camera under $400 run on 1.2, 2.4GHZ or 5.8GHZ and wont offer encryption. This is bad for 2 reasons one the signal can easy be jammed, with a laptop you can actually hacked video feeds so a criminal can use it to spy and know a good time to target your business or home.

There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 3% which means they canât afford to offer good service or allow for RMAs (returns). Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

Now some products can be made cheaply like ipod cases, screen protectors, and other simple products with no moving parts or electronics. DVRs need to be good quality as they run 24/7 (20X more than the average electronic device) and process anywhere from 30-480 frames per second which in a year is over 15 billion images, and a good DVR should last 3-5 years.

A true DVR and camera require years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day and are one of the few products that canât be made both well and cheaply. Cheap and inexpensive products like Q-see, X10, Swan, Lorex, and other low grade DVRâs and cameras sold by Tiger Direct, Newegg, radio shack Sams Club, are not used by any security professional and should only be used by hobbyists.

To be honest the products these stores sells are often compete garbage and are not used by anyone who has worked with CCTV or security products. I They are poor quality especially for IR cameras, due to low quality material, low S/N ratio, and low grade CCD image chips.

Also as far as night vision or IR cameras go most do not give good images in the dark.

Now one option for wireless is using commercial IP radios which are basically wireless routers on steroids and can offer distances up to 40km of wireless with military encryption, this is not a cheap solution but neither is digging a trench. using these radios not only give you a security infrastructure but also communications infrastructures as well for internet and other purposes (LAN network)

Good radio company
http://www.tranzeo.com/

now in order to use this wireless network to distribute video you need to buy IP cameras which are similar to IP cameras only they transmit video over networks instead of a cable.

The company I recommend for CCTV products is Ascendent Technology Group they have a large product line and offer better products then Pelco Honeywell and Bosch and are about %20 cheaper and in my opinion have the best IR outdoor ca

Making own home surveillance system?

tlc289

I want to make my own... local prices to install run around $2000.
1) What else will I need besides the following: plenty of cable (what type/kind?), a DVR, dome-type cameras.... what else?
2) I want to be able to have a system turn on only when movement is detected, is this type of thing standard with surveillance software?
3) Cameras: I want dome-type cameras with IR capability and I understand that the more lines-per-second I can get the better (ie >420 LPS) but are there any brands that are better than others?
4) DVR system: any one brand better than another? What size (GB) should I get ---> and will I be able to use the same thing (hard drive or CD or whatever it is that does the recording) over and over again (can I record over old, non-essential events)?
5) Are there any other things I will need? Connectors for cable lines (to plug into back of DVR)... connectors to tie into cameras?

Any/all help is appreciated. I don't prefer to buy a "kit" online, as it's my perception that the cameras aren't of decent quality (but I could be wrong).

Answer
I set my system up with components mostly from Frys.

At their website, in the blue tabs on the left, select "Electronic Components", the "Security", then "Closed Circuit Television". In there, the stuff that is interesting to you will be "Recorders" and "Wired Cameras".

DVR info:
You did not say how many cameras you want to use. They come in 4, 8, 9 and 16 channel sizes - each channel is a camera connection. Pretty much all the DVRs available now have a way to identify a "motion sensing" area. Normall, the DVR is recording 1 still every 4 seconds (you can change that to more or less often) and when motion is sensed in the defined area, the DVR starts recording real-time and kicks in an alarm log entry. Sometimes the hard drive is included, many times you but the hard drive separately. I find that a 4-camera system take about 25 days to start recording over the oldest video on a 200 gig drive. I use a Lorex DVR.

Cameras:
Not too sure about the dome cameras with internal IR. I use the Lorex CVC6997HR, CVC6973HR, some Swann and Clover outdoor rated IR cameras.

Cabling/Installation:
Most of the cable runs use the 60 foot cable that came in the box with the cameras. A few of them where the cable was not long enough, I ended up using CAT5 network cable - on runs less than about 150 feet, it works fine (and way cheaper than coax and easier to work with). RCA jacks for the ends of the CAT5 are available at Frys or RadioShack.

The cameras are placed under the eaves so I don't have to worry too much about weather impact.

Other:
You might consider getting a battery-back up... in the event of a power outage, the UPS will allow the surveillance system to keep working.

I also ran CAT5 through the house and terminated the cabling where all the televisions are - that way, I can use an auxiliary video input (instead of the game console) to check the outdoor video while watching TV - or just leave the security cameras on the screen if there's nothing to watch on TV... In the den, there is a second TV that displays ONLY the surveillance cams - the HDTV is for watching programs/movies, etc...

Each installation is different, so it is difficult to give a complete shopping list.

You know you will want ONE DVR and at least ONE camera, so get that first and install it - you can build the system from there.

Most current DVRs can also have an IP address put on them, so you can connect it to your home's local area network and use a browser to get to the video - even remotely if you have that capability.

In round numbers:
$500 for the 4 channel DVR
$100 x 2 cameras
$150 x 2 cameras

That's $1,000 just for the basic system... then there's the connectors, extra cable, maybe a $100 for the hard drive for the DVR, connectivity to the house TVs, wallplates, more cabling for that, labor to pull the cable and install the cameras, another $100 for the battery backup... $2,000 does not sound like too bad of a deal - but if you like to do this sort of thing, it is easy to do if your house allows easy access for the cable runs.

Hello
There are 2 types of DVR;s PC based and a standalone

PC (a card and software installed that uses your PC to store recorded video)
Standalone looks like a DVD player non PC based (does not use PC to record images)

Not all CCTV equipment is created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of CCTV you can find the equivalent of a $2,000 golf cart and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels but that's where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts.

There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 2% which means they canât afford to offer good service or allow for RMAs (returns).

To be honest these retailers sells complete Garbage and is not used by anyone who has worked with CCTV or security products. They are poor quality especially for IR cameras, due to low quality material, low S/N ratio, and c grade CCD image chips.

If you are only going to spend 70$ on cameras then you should buy 15 dummy cameras they will be just as effective and cheaper.

Also as far as night vision or IR cameras go most do not give good images in the dark.

Some good CCTV brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent.

Economical DVR's
Two good economical DVRs I would recommend are Ascendent's AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco's DX-400. They will allow you to view all your cameras instantly from anywhere in the world using either IE, or a client software. The AVP-4120 uses the latest H.264 codec to improve streaming and recording time, and will allow PCs and Apple computers to remotely view cameras. These are the DVRs I would recommend that are good quality and affordable from companies who stand behind there products.

Again if you are going to buy cheap CCTV products, save money and get dummy cameras they are just as affective and you will be less disappointed.

CNB cameras are not high end and are made in china,

Spyville just sell products made in china and are also quite low quality.

Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. Live Streaming Cameras Wireless To Computer?

I want to set up surveillance cameras around the outside of my house. What kind of camera is capable of wireless recordings to a computer or laptop? (Best quality)

Answer
There are two ways.

1) IP network-based cameras become part of the wifi computer network all the other devices in your house are on. The transmit the video wirelessly. But then need power, so they need to be plugged into a power outlet, somehow. If the cameras are on the outside of the house, then they should be out-door rated. If they are expected to transmit useful video when it is dark, then they need to have built-in infrared emitters so they can "see" when it is dark.

If the cameras are supposed to work when there is a power outage, then some sort of battery back-up for each camera is needed. A battery back-up system for the computer, the network router and the whatever device is providing the wifi network will be needed, too. The sizing of the battery back up for the router, wifi switch and computer (and each camera) will depend on how long they are expected to run when there is no power. Fifteen minutes is easy. Several hours can start to add up.

If recording the video is required, then computer should be used ONLY for the surveillance recording. Video uses a LOT of computer hard drive space. When 4 or more cameras are feeding video, the computer won't like doing much else. If the cameras are constantly sending video to the computer for recording, you should probably segment the computer network so the surveillance video is on its own segment and not clogging the rest of the computer network (fighting for space downloading music, NetFlix video, web site access, etc...) when others are connected with their computers, tablets, smartphones, etc.

2) Use analog cameras that connect to a DVR. The DVR is added (preferably wired) to the local network. Computers and various smartphones on the local network can access the DVR using wifi or wired connection. This assumes they have a surveillance video client from the system manufacturer, the password and IP address of the DVR.

For "best quality", look into Pelco. Their IP cameras start at about $3,000 each. They can't see very well in the dark but it is easy enough to install a motion sensing light to go on so the camera can see. Their video server systems (starting at around $7,000) are pretty decent. I like the pan-tilt-zoom control cameras best.

For consumer grade video surveillance systems, I like Swann and Lorex. Don't get the kits - the cameras included aren't that great. For a good system, expect to spend around $800 for the networkable DVR and at least $130 per camera. They won't be pan-tilt, but if you get "addressable" cameras, there is some zoom capability.

I found it ironic that "wireless cameras" actually have more wires than a wired camera.

Wired camera has a cable from the camera to the DVR. One plug goes into the DVR. One plug for power. The network enabled DVR needs power and a connection to the network.

Wireless camera has a power cable for the camera. The camera sends video to a base station. The video base station has two plugs - one for power and one to plug into the DVR.

In the case of an IP based wireless camera, it needs power, to... and since it is on wifi, the wireless router or access point needs power and network connectivity... two more "wires".

So, a "wireless" security camera is not exactly wireless.

I am looking to install 4 wireless motion-activated cameras around the house..anyone ever do this?

Alexander

I prefer wireless, weather-proof and should record everything to my home network server.

Answer
I would suggest that you use a dedicated surveillance DVR rather than a regular data server. Video can use a lot of storage space and IP cameras are a lot more expensive than non-IP cameras... then, when you assign the IP address to the DVR and add it to your home network, you can still get to the video from a computer on your network... or you can also set up monitoring cabilities by connecting the monitor-out jack on the DVR to the televisions on you home. You cannot do this monitoring part with IP based cameras very easily.

And... you do understand that "wireless" means the only wireless part is the video connection... the camera still needs power - and you need a wire for that (unless you get a solar powered one with a battery that charges when the sun is out...

Go to Frys.com. In the blue tabs on the left, hover over "Electronic Components" and follow the path: Security: Closed Circuit Television: and look in CCTV kits, Recorders, Wired or Wireless cameras.

I use a 4-channel Lorex recorder and have a mix of Lorex, Swann and Q-See cameras - all are outdoor rated with night vision. Mine are all wired (video signal), too. Any of the cameras less than $100 will not provide decent video.

Of course, if you have a big budget, then check the PTZ IP cams in the domes... At $1,000 each or more, they don't quite make sense to me, but the Pan, Tilt, Zoom functions are pretty cool... and if you can afford these, you should probably hire someone to do the installation.

How to prevent hooligans & terrorists from hacking into my WiFi network & internet in London?

best home security camera system uk on Start reading on your Kindle in under a minute . Don't have a Kindle ...
best home security camera system uk image

Major

I live in an ethnically diverse and racially sensitive suburb outside London which has a history of trouble in big and small doses. Those who remember the hooliganism of the 2011 UK riots will agree.

I also have a self defence establishment in the city of London where I teach people personal protection techniques. This place, as well as my home, have several WiFi connections that record in real time, 24 x 7. Some of these connections are tied to surveillance cameras and other security monitoring systems to detect suspicious activity including break-ins.

Recently, during an audit, I noticed several loopholes and vulnerabilities in my WiFi setup which could be bypassed, allowing access to unauthorized people. Some well-meaning neighbours and concerned community citizens too have complained of intermittent WiFi breaches, attempts at hacking by miscreants and unknown people (that's the tough part -- you never know who's going to target you, and why).

Following the horrendous Woolwich Attack and the deplorable beheading of the young British soldier in May 2013, I'm making a serious effort to ensure protection on all fronts. I can deal with the physical part, it's the technological part that I see as a weak link.

The last thing I need is some religious nut or far-right nationalist (this swings both ways) hacking into my WiFi network and using it for their senseless propaganda.

My question is: How do I beef up my WiFi connection so that it isn't hijacked by anti-socials and/or terrorists for their nefarious deeds? I want to do this the easiest and best possible way.

Answer
Install a military-grade encryption software on all your WiFi-enabled devices (laptop, PC, cell phone tablet). At the same time, do not broadcast your SSID (Service Set Identification). Do this and your wireless connection will become invisible, anonymous.

SSID is what the drive-by WiFi seekers will use to locate your wireless signal or network and sniff out for potential vulnerabilities in your setup.

Some of the vulnerabilities include weak passwords, lack of encryption on your router, etc. Once they find that, it won't take long for them to hijack it. (Trust me, these hackers latch on to your network like marauding leeches.)

Anonymity on a wireless network is the easiest, most effective way to safeguard your private space and your personal internet.

I use it all the time.

How can I take pictures with my PC?

I was just wondering if Windows 7 has a program like Mac's photo booth D: or just something I can click on to take a photo with the camera of my laptop.
