What likely happening at Walmart with several police involved?

Jen Lori A

Today I saw several police car drive fast with sirens light on to show up at Walmart. When police arrived, some police looks at security camera and run fast to a east side of parking lot. Several police drive around and searching in the several different cars at east side of parking lot.

The store general manager talking with police and walk around at the parking lot.

They give up about 20 minutes later. I even saw regular customers was in security camera room talking with police.

What happen? What type of crimes that draw this kind of attention? I know it's not serious like murder because walmart would been close right away with road blockage, I am sure it's not like a candy bar shoplift because of all the hassle with several people.

Is there possible a professional criminal knows how to beat secuirty camera by fooling them and cause police look at wrong place?

Answer
could have been a fight, perhaps a shoplifter pulled a weapon on store security while they were detaining him. keep an eye on your local news (tv and newspaper) and find out.

I've priced a base system (1 camera with infrared capability / 80G DVR / labor) for $1100 w/ a local security company. It jumps up to $2200 for additional cameras and higher-functioning DVR (160G). Can a regular man install this sort of system?

Any and all information is appreciated.

Answer
Yes, I've installed two different digital video recording systems myself, bought the PCs from the local computer store, bought the PCI cards on-line and bought used CCTV cameras off eBay, bought the wire and connections at a local electronics store. They work like a champ.

The advantage of PCs is that the image is already digitized and I can monitor and review over the internet from another location (securely).

Approximate cost: New PC: $200 (open-box store PC returned by a previous customer, works fine), new PCI card: $29, 4 used CCTV cameras from eBay $80 ($20 each), wire and connections I didn't add it up but may run something less than $100 unless you want really long lines.

You cannot beat the quality and price of used CCTV cameras off eBay, although, like anything else eBay, you have to buy things that work. A few CCTV cameras I bought didn't work. Not knowing anything about cameras, I opened them up anyway and resoldered loose connections and they worked!

My second system has a similar PC except I bought a nicer PCI card for about $250 and have indoor/outdoor IR (night lighted) cameras that cost around $100 each.

They both have been running fine for over a year so far. And I'm not a security or PC expert but have learned a few things along the way.

My cat has been gone for a week is that too long?

Samantha

He was an outdoor cat then we moved and tried to make him and indoor cat but every week or so he gets really weird and I mean weird so he does his best to get out and has done so three times before this. The first time he was gone for a day and we caught him in the yard and the second he was gone for like three days and we caught him in the yard again but the last time he was gone for four days and just came back on his own up to the porch while we were sitting there. He has been gone for a week now and we leave food out for him and something sure is eating it but I'm afraid something has happened to him or when he comes home he doesn't stay because we aren't outside like he has no way in so he leaves. It's getting cold and snowy so it worries me even more because shouldn't he want to come home to get out of the cold? What should we do?

Answer
I'd find a place to put a covered box with a doorway and pet bed, or old blanket, in it. This will give the cat a place to be where it can be warm, and near you. place the food and water dish nearby, and hope for the best. One never knows what to expect, and the only way to be sure whats eating the food is a security camera on the area, with tapes to review.

Why do cons believe in security guards at school but not surveilance cameras?

best security camera 2011 on Home video surveillance systems do have to cost the world.

They are both big brother measures, but surveillance cameras actually caught the Boston bombers.

Answer
That is the kind of question I would expect a brain dead liberal to ask. An armed security guards at school can stop things like Sandy Hook. What is surveillance cameras going to do, other than showing the liberal gun control bigots how good a job they are at having our children murdered, so they can further their anti-gun agenda?

It has NEVER been the NRA murdering people, it has always been the liberals.

On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a â***** hunt,â killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find.

In 1863 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.

In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan.

In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.

In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killing 6 others.

In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.

In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people in a school.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not.

Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns, all liberals should be banned from having firearms.

Why is it none of the disturbed and evil men, who steal guns, or buy them bent on evil, to kill movie-goers and children in school, has ever been identified as a conservative NRA member?

When Obama wins how long will it take us to finish off Israel and the Zionist here?

Mike

America under republicans allows to many things against islamic law since we got muslim we are able to go after the makers of anti islamic videos. There is so much hate speech by the only Christians zionists allowed in this country. It still may take 5 years to get real islamic law though. Obama will lead the final solution though.
There seem to be a lot of zionist republicans who watch fox news on here.

Answer
Your question (?) is the same old Nazi rhetoric of Hitler and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj al-Husseini. And BTW, al-Husseini was the uncle of Yassar Arafat and Abdul Nassar. The apple of hate doesn't fall far from the tree! Are you aware of the fact Hitler conquered 22 sovereign European countries which allowed him access to European Jewry? WW2 was the most expensive war in the world, not only financially but also the cost of human life, 52 million people died as a result of Hitler's war against the Jews.

Are you aware of the fact that at least 185 Jews and people of half- or three-quarters-Jewish ancestry have been awarded the Nobel Prize,1 accounting for 22% of all individual recipients worldwide between 1901 and 2011. On the other hand, there has been only 6 Muslims that were awarded the Nobel Prize between 1998-2003. Were the others too busy making bombs to do anything else creative?

5. Israel's Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

would like info on the best and affordable wireless security camera systems. Need at least 4-5 cameras. Need wireless, outdoor use, night vision, and zoom features for plate and face identification. a large area needs to be covered (about 3 acres). However, I mainly need to survelence for parking entrance/exit, Cash register, and 2 locations of shipping and receiving. need to know how to relay feed to central computer which in some cases is over 1200 feet away from the camera feed. thanks!

Answer
It sounds like you have fairly specific needs. If you are looking for licence plate recognition, night vision and zoom features it is not going to be cheap and you should probably stay away from wireless solutions - particularly inexpensive ones.
As for connection to a central computer, this is typically done with a DVR (Digital video recorder) Through IP. Although there are some IP specific camera's out there. Be careful on the equipment you choose as there is some pretty crappy offshore equipment out there. What looks good on a monitor locally may not look so good once the image is compressed and sent over the internet or LAN.

When you look at a system it is best to look at it as a whole. There is a term we use in the industry - crap in crap out. You may have the best the best camera but it doesn't matter one biut if your recorder is crap. Same goes for the recorder, if you have a great recorder and really bad spystore camera's you might as well be looking at a black and white TV in the middle of the bush with no cable.

I don't know what area you are in, but there is some basic info on my website at www.keepsafesystems.ca you may want to contact a professional in your area.

ExtremeCCTV just came out with a licence plate night camera. It is quite impressive but by no means a Costco / home depot unit.

Someone seems to think it is funny to throw beer bottles and garbage on our lawn. We are trying to catch them in the act. We think we know who it is, but we want to get a security camera to try to protect our property. Does anyone know who makes the best, affordable security cameras?

Answer
Get a CCTV camera with infrared night vision and CCD sensor - do not get a camera with a CMOS sensor, they are no good in the dark.

Get a camera with a high resolution (480) and and digital DVR than can record that resolution

Answer
Hello

Not all DVRs are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

I suggest you buy a PC based DVR has they have more processing power and normally have a much smaller file size and offer more features then Standalone DVR's. I know many people buy a cheap standalone DVR, only to upgrade to a PC based in 6 months especially when they are using it to manage a store remotely. Also PC based allows you to record up to 64 cameras where a standalone will have a limit of 16.

Many people have the misconception that a PC-Based DVR is simply an off-the-shelf PC with video capture (encoder) cards, display (decoder) cards and some generic OEM software. A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day. This makes consumer-level hardware inadequate for DVRs which is why Ascendent uses custom-built PCs with performance-level hardware.

My personal favorite DVR is Ascendent X4 series: Ascendentâs Tri-Fusion Hybrid Platform allows for the creation of a true hybrid surveillance system by utilizing the advantages of Analog, Megapixel, and IP technologies for unparalleled customization and expandability. I am working on government projects and use Ascendent cameras and DVR because the offer superior performance and cost less then comparable brands like bosh, Honeywell and pelco.

The X4 also uses the latest H.264/SVC codec offer video substantially better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

File size is crucial to streaming because most DVRâs on the market record at real time performance (30FPS per channel) so on a 4CH is trying to send 120, 8CH 240, and a 16CH 480 images per second which requires way too much bandwidth even for the most extreme internet connections.

The smaller the files size the more images are able to be sent, and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities, as it also determines the recording storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video. The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most important spec of any DVR.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest you ask for a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVRs say they have remote viewing but it is often too slow and laggy to be of any use especially if it is a standalone. Some good DVR brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent. These brands are what security professionals use, Q-see, Swan and Lorex are only used in residential applications because they are sold by Tiger Direct, Spytown, Newegg, Sams Club, Costco and other retail outlets but are not used by any security professionals also their tech support rarely speaks English as their first language...

These brand manufacturers also have a complete line of CCTV cameras for any application from residential to military.

What is the best brand to go with for a home security survailance system?

mja_bengal

I am looking to purchase a home security survailance system, I would like to get a system with very clear camera views and good color. Any recommendations?

Answer
For high quality images and color, I would recommend going with an FD series DVR package found here.

http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1251-4-channel-dvr-system-with-dvd-r.aspx

This is our complete 4 channel FD package solution. If you need more cameras, we have a 9 and a 16 channel system available as well.

We also have our 600 series DVR package which is also a great choice, at a lower price point. This package can be purchased in 4, 8, 16, and 32 channel configurations.

http://www.apexcctv.com/p-1006-4-camera-complete-security-system.aspx

Additionally, you can also go with a PC based system running IP cameras for even higher quality which can be found here.

http://www.apexcctv.com/c-77-4-channel-dvr.aspx

With any of these systems, you will have the ability to view the cameras using an iPhone or Android phone. This is especially handy if you will not always be at a computer and want to view your cameras.

How do you hook up a security camera to a dvd recorder?

best security camera in the market image

John

i just bought a security camera and a tv from walmart . I need to record it on a dvd-r disk but im not sure what equiptment i need and how to set it up. thanks-john

Answer
You just wasted whatever money you spent at walmart they will work well for dummy cameras but that's it

Not all DVR are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying levels of performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can buy the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that is where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. And using the car analogy what you have here with the the Walmart camera is a used lawnmower that needs the blade to be replaced.

Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $100.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means itâs not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. There is a reason these products are 1/10 of the price of good and reliable DVR brand names. The type of seller these products attract are online sellers (ebay) and will make profits margins as low as 2% which means they canât afford to offer good service or allow for RMAs (returns). Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

Now some products can be made cheaply like ipod cases, screen protectors, and other simple products with no moving parts or electronics. DVRs need to be good quality as they run 24/7 (20X more than the average electronic device) and process anywhere from 30-480 frames per second which in a year is over 15 billion images, and a good DVR should last 3-5 years.

A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day and are one of the few products that canât be made both well and cheaply. Cheap and inexpensive products like Q-see, Swan, Lorex, and other low grade DVRâs sold by Tiger Direct, Newegg, Sams Club, are not used by security professionals and should only be used by hobbyists.

I suggest you buy a PC based DVR has they have more processing power and normally have a much smaller file size and offer more features then Standalone DVR's. I know many people buy a cheap standalone DVR, only to upgrade to a PC based in 6 months especially when they are using it to manage a store remotely. http://www.ascendentgroup.com (AVP-4120)
http://www.honeywell.com
www.pelco.com/ (DX-4000)
http://www.bosch.com

Two good economical DVRs I would recommend are Ascendent's AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco's DX-400. They will allow you to view all your cameras instantly from anywhere in the world using either IE, or a client software. The AVP-4120 uses the latest H.264 codec to improve streaming and recording time, and will allow PCs and Apple computers to remotely view cameras. These are the DVRs I would recommend that are good quality and affordable

Fake security cameras can be used to deter criminals from entering your house or vandalizing your property. Unfortunately, if it doesn't work, you wouldn't be able to record the crime and you wouldn't have any form of evidence that would help you and the authorities identify the culprit.

The answer, according to research, not so comforting. Devices that can spy, eye opening.

With this access, hackers can use the Smart TVs built-in camera and microphones to see and hear everything in front of it. Instead of just watching TV, viewers could themselves be watched without knowing it. But this flaw isnât present in just one specific model. The vulnerability affects all 11 Samsung televisions of the latest generation. The Smart TVs have many of the same features as a computer, but lack the same kind of protection. The devices do not have security features such as firewalls and antivirus software. What the best surveillance cameras for home?

Fynest1

Lately, I have people coming to my yard stealing all my stuff. Im almost never home like that because of work. So is what is the best outdoor surveillance cameras that is wireless and can also be viewed from a smart phone? (Android)

Answer
"Best" would be the pro-grade stuff. You should consider setting a budget.

For around $500, Swann and Lorex make decent 4-camera kits (DVR + cameras) that can be accessed remotely - and assumes you have a good knowledge of setting up networks and maintaining network security. It will be a good idea to use outdoor-rated cameras. The cameras with these kits aren't that great, but should be enough to get you started. It is best to install the cameras under the eaves of the house or under some other weather protection (even though they are "outdoor rated"). IP-network cameras cost a lot more, so it is probably best to stay with analog cameras that connect to a DVR that is on the computer network.

When a wired camera is used: A cable with the power and video feed goes from the camera to the DVR. At each end of the cable, there's a plug for power and a plug for video. If there is a mic in the camera, there will be a plug on each side for the mic. If there is Pan/tilt/zoom, there will be another plug for that... but that is all in one cable "bundle".

When a wireless camera is used: The camera needs local power (wire #1). The video is transmitted wirelessly to a base station. The base station connects to power (wire #2) and the DVR (wire #3).

Moral: a wired surveillance camera uses fewer wires than a "wireless" camera.

The DVR can be set up to send you email when certain alarm options are set up in the DVR. That way you don't have to stare at the smartphone all day. A special client needs to be installed on your phone - before you buy, check the ratings on the smartphone app and read the manual (download it from the manufacturer you are considering) to be sure it does what you want.

need a cheap security cameras for outdoor use ?

your answers may save hundreds of my uncles pigs.
my uncle if a farmer (as you may have guessed) and he raises hugs, someone in the aria go out at night and poisons the hugs.
he has the barn locked all the time but the guy brakes the locks with a hammer. my uncle also has motion detection light all over the barns but they don't help because hes not home at night to see them.
so my question is what is the cheapest set up for a security cameras system.
he would prefer a motion detection, night vision, and tamper proof.

Answer
Check Frys Electronics. If you go to their website, on the left near the top of the screen in the Tabs, select Electronic Components, then Security, Closed Circuit Television... You want to look through CCTV kits or Recorders or Wired Cameras or Wireless Cameras. Those rated for outdoors will be marked "Outdoor" or "Indoor/Outdoor". Those with night vision will have built-in infrared emmiters that turn on when the ambient light is low enough.

The 4-channel (they also come in 8, 9 and 16 channel) surveillance DVRs typically have a menu selection that lets you select a motion detection area in the video frame. Normally, the video is captured at 1 frame every 4 seconds - but when the motion detection field senses motion, the video goes to real-time video capture.

As for "tamper proof" if you set them up right, you will get video of the bad person before they can destory the camera. The trick will be to locate the surveillance DVR someplace they can't find it - or high enough where they can't reach it - or see it. Or, the surveillance DVR could be inside the house and not with the pigs in which case, longer cables will be needed to run from the barn to the house. Some surveillance DVRs have IP addressing capabilities - this means they can be part of a computer network (including the internet) and be accessed from any other computer with appropriate security. All surveillance DVRs have a "monitor" output so they can be connected to a television's AV-input.

Lorex, Clover and Swann make decent consumer-grade surveillance gear.

You can set up 1 camera and a video feed pretty inexpensively - and have that video feed a computer. To do this, you will need a IP based security camera. There aren't many "outdoor rated" IP cameras... and they are expensive.

I am looking for an home security camera sytem that I could link with my tv on it's own channel.

Any suggestions?
Trying to stay below $400, I could do any wiring myself. I live in South Florida so it gets to be around 90 degrees on average. Just a standard resolution in color. Night vision would be a big plus but not needed. If it could be directed to the video input on a receiver that could work also. Would want it to store recordings.

Answer
Analog, composite video? There are lots.

On its own channel? Some RF modulators can be expensive, especially if you want to select the channel. Easier if you just use one of the other video inputs that are not in use.

What is your budget?
What resolution are you looking for?
Will the video need to be recorded and stored? If yes, what surveillance DVR are you looking at?
Only one camera?
Is night vision required? If yes, how far does the camera need to see in darkness?
Does the camera need to be outdoor rated?
Does it snow where you live? If yes, you may need a housing with a heater unit.
Does it get REALLY hot where you live? If yes, you might need a housing with a cooling system.
Is the video signal to be wired or wireless?
Is there power available where you plan to install the camera?
Is the camera going to stay in one position or is pan/tilt/zoom control required?

You have not provided enough information for anyone to provide you a good recommendation.

Answer
You can do this a couple of different ways:

Method 1) Wireless cameras, transmitting to a Receiver. From the receiver run the signal into a modulator, which will output the video as an actual TV channel. You'd need to add the signal onto your video network using a splitter/combiner.

Method 2) Wireless cameras and receiver, and connect the output from the receiver to an unused video input on your TV. View the cameras by selecting the correct input using your TV remote. This is cheaper and simpler than Method 1.

Keep in mind that the first method using modulation can have problems. The quality of the pictures may be poor, due to interference from nearby channels on your TV network.

The second method is almost foolproof, since you're using the "raw" signal straight out of the receiver.

Good luck!

In Minnesota, is it legal to set up hidden security cameras in my own home?

GuysMyDog

I have renters some of which may be theives. I also live in this house and own it. Is it legal for me to put invisible unknown security cameras in common areas (not bathrooms or bedrooms) with the risk that it may pick up a conversation that I was not personally privy to?

Answer
Rules and Regulations For a Hidden Camera
If you are planning to fit a supervision camera in your residence or in your working area it is wise to study your states privacy rule and regulations and consider area where you may possibly be in violation, which might consequence in huge fines and/or a prison sentence. It is illegal to set up secret or hidden security cameras in part which is considered to be a confidential place.

United States privacy rules classify a secretive place as everyplace one is capable of is assumed to be out of harm's way from unlawful surveillance. This comprises of areas such as locker rooms, changing stalls, restrooms, bedrooms and lodge rooms.

This means that you cannot put in a hidden security camera or voice recording or hearing devices in these areas without prior written down authorization from the person. State regulation regarding security cameras is not standardized across the board.

Merely a very few in number of them have regulation concerning hidden camera setting up. Some places like California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Alabama, Arkansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Kansas and Utah.

What type of security camera should I get for this situation?

Zach

My tires recently got slashed, and I'm skeptical of it happening again after fixing them, so I'd like to get myself a cheap but decent / working security camera. However, I'm not sure if I should get CCTV, Analog, or what.

I live in an apartment complex, far in the back area. At night, the lighting is poor, and it's pretty dark outside. I can see my car from my window, so if I got a standing camera, I could conceal it and set it in the window sill. Other than that, I suppose anything is fair game.

My only stipulations are something in the range of $60-, and that I can wirelessly connect it to my computer since I spend a lot of time on said computer, and so would be able to watch it mostly at all times. It also needs to be able to record, so I can turn in evidence if this happens again.

Please and thank you for all help :)

Why didn't my security camera record the video?

best security cameras for your home reviews image
Q. So yesterday I came home to a bit of a surprise... I live in a quit neighborhood so I never expected this. Anyway, I found my street blocked off, and when Arriving to my house, found the telephone pole in my neighbor from three doors down's yard snapped in half, and an SUV flipped in their yard.

Then I remembered I have security camera's that point almost directly where it happened. My security camera's record when they detect motion, but when reviewing the video's, it never tapped the accident? The last video before the accident was the mail carrier going up the street, then the next video was 10min later, which showed the car flipped upside down and the street full of cops, firetrucks, etc. But it missed the actual accident... how? The power surprisingly never went out, All my clocks were still set, computers still on, etc. How did it not record it? What's wrong with it?

Answer
Check your recording system, wire connection & motion detector sensor, I think it would be damaged among them.

How can I record off of my security Camera?

r5bpitre

I have a security camera. That has night vision on it. Problem is I don't have a dvr. What I do have is my cpu, a digital cable box that has dvr, and the camera and receiver. Is there anyway I can record footage with these items? If not what would be my cheapest route?

Answer
If the cam receiver has a USB plug, it can tether to the computer.
If it's "Plug-n-Play" it should be detected and self power through the USB line.

Then, since video takes huge amounts of hard drive, you want a 'motion detection' software, to capture things that are moving while in the camera's field of view. That reduces the space needed on the drive.
Here's some of the software (it's free):
http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/security/fwvideosurveillance.html

Hook all of these things up and test it indoors to see how it works, alignment, and so on.
"Save" from the software selected onto the computer, to a folder you create. Somewhere on the desktop is handy to get to.

How does one get their Trendnet IP100W-N Camera to stream to a Blackberry?

A K

Wanted to be able to view the security camera from my blackberry. Any ideas about how to stream the video from my security camera? As it stands, I can't access it from the Blackberry browser or Opera. The feed uses a java applet which apparently is unsupported by any of the blackberry browsers (though java is supposed to work with Blackberry's).

Thanks in advance.

Answer
I've used these cameras for some time now -- not the N models, but the earlier G and B models.

Anyway, if that Blackberry won't accept the java app that you have to use, then you're going to be stuck just looking at still images and not video.

On my ipod Touch, there is an app called "Live Cams" with provides an interface to the ipod touch to MJPEG video sources like the Trendnet cameras offer (http://livecams-iphone.com/). Perhaps there is a similar application for the Blackberry available.

Also, this web site (http://www.ehow.com/how_2076586_use-java-apps-blackberry.html) suggests that using the WAP web browser on your Blackberry is better than using the Blackberry's internet browser for Java app. Apparently the Java on Blackberry devices is a modified version, so it may still not work with the Java app provided by the IP100W-N.

Is there any CHEAP service out there to SMS you when 2 magnets separate?

Jas

I want to know if one specific door is ever opened, but have no need for a full security system. I simply need to know when, if ever, a specific door is opened without an alarm and without a camera. I want to use a system with 2 magnets that's related to an iPhone app. Anything like that out there? Again, 2 simple magnets > when they lose contact, they send a signal to a server that texts me.

Answer
I am not familiar with any service that provides this option as a service.

Here is what you can do. Get a simple alarm system.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ademco-LYNX-Plus-L3000-Wireless-Alarm-Panel-Kit-20-2-Version-/221016373361?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33759a3871

Also get one door contact http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Honeywell-5816-5816WMWH-Wireless-Door-Window-Transmitter-w-Magnet-/280965035728?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416ad236d0

When you program the panel, assign your phone number in the download # section. It wont send a text but it will call you and send you a coded tone from your home phone number. You wont understand the tone but you will know that the door has been opened.

You may also want to disable the siren so opening the door is not detected locally.

Home security camera surveillance-how much does a basic set up cost?

best do it yourself security camera system on Security Systems Wireless | Do It Yourself Home Security
best do it yourself security camera system image

LJ

Lost of crime in my neighbor and interested in home camera surveillance. Is it expensive and is it worth it?

Answer
You can purchase a variety of different systems, ranging from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. You probably don't need the most expensive systems (unless your house is huge). A good option would be to place external security cameras in areas that a thief would most likely pass through before he entered your home. You can then attach the security cameras to a DVR so that they only record when there is activity.

However, I think its important to point out that while security cameras are great, they are only one (optional) component of home security. Your first goal should be a home security system. You can purchase these online and install them yourself. They are the same models as you would receive from ADT or Brinks, but at a fraction of the cost, since you do the actual installation (which is not that difficult). The site below is a good resource for home security systems and camera systems. Good luck.

How much to install 16 camera security system?

Connor

I was just wondering about how much ONLY an installation would cost for 8 outdoor cameras? This includes wiring and mounting and all that. Thanks!
I'm saying like if we had a professional come and install it, we all ready bought the system.

Answer
Well over a grand unless you install it yourself. About 700 bucks if you do a little comparative shopping and install it yourself.
