Answer
Hello

Here is a DVR that will work perfectly for you.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com/x4s.htm

Most DVR's and cameras don't have the ability to view from your i-phone, and you cant just download generic software all DVR's and cameras uses different encryption , software, and compression so you cant use another companies software to view another manufactures DVR.

You want a DVR that has an app specifically designed to work with it like the one I am suggesting below.

What you want is a DVR a DVR converts analog cameras and as well as storing images on site allows you to distribute video over LAN and WAN networks. (internet and network) this way you have both on site storage and recording at your house.

A good Analog DVR will do what you are looking for and not only display them but record them as well they will also allow you to view them over the internet from a Iphone or laptop.

X4S Remote Accessibility
View all your cameras instantly and remotely, and configure the DVR through internet using eitherbusiness in real time from anywhere in the world. MAC or PC platforms (smart phones too). This allows you to manage your

Many people have a misconception that IP has Superior scalability then Analog but with the advancements with DVR's this simply isn't true, you cn do up to 16,000 cameras each camera could even be from a different DVR and a different site.

And when you are using the internet to connect multiple sites together analog transmits over the internet faster with less latency using less bandwidth allowing you not only to view and monitor a situation real time but also effective control PTZ cameras.

What is the Advantage of IP?
Many of the so called advantages of IP simply don't hold water in the real world, IP is mainly Hype and marketing and outside of a few niche applications such as 1 or 2 camera installs, where MP cameras are needed or large scale wireless projects which represent about 2% of the total CCTV market, IP has very few advantages compared to analog based on performance, cost and reliability. (yet all companies touting IP will often use MP cameras to demonstrate the advantages of IP)

IP video is more about marketing then it is about performance as larger companies like Bosch pelco Honeywell axis can change for both hardware and software and once you use there cameras you have to keep using there cameras unlike analog.

Also IP sounds great, plug and play, Better image quality, use existing infrastructure, who wouldnât want that unfortunately this is often not the case.

IP cameras are based on CMOS
Analog cameras are based on CCD (usually)

A CMOS sensor is constructed using a array of pixels, but unlike CCDâs CMOS do not have a capacitor to store the charge for each pixel. The rows of pixels are activated sequentially rather then individually

In short unless you have perfect lighting a good CCD camera will outperform an equivalent CMOS camera.

File Size:
The smaller the files size the more images that are able to be sent and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities as it also determines the recoding storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video.

IP cameras have up to a 5X larger file size then analog cameras. (at same resolution) I have seen MP cameras that on 2MP resolution are over 300X (%3000) larger then our X3 DVR on a CIF image. This is an extreme case but generally speaking IP cameras have a much larger file size.

Most routers and switches are not designed to handle IP cameras they have enough bandwidth but they are not able to process the amounts of commands. (9 IP cameras 30FP is 230 instructions per second) standard routers have enough bandwidth (up to 1GB) but cant handle the amount of tasks (instructions) so frames get dropped latency is introduced and the effectiveness of other devices such as POS, printers and dats storage can be affected and compromised.

Donât get me wrong there are some brutal analog cameras and DVR out there but If you see a good D1 resolution image such as Ascendents Hardware compressed you will not be so quick to join the IP bandwagon.

IP is a young and emerging technology and I have no doubt that in the future it will outperform analog cameras but its not a mature technology yet. Once we start to get standard IP platforms, get rid of license feesâ and existing networks have larger bandwidths then IP video will be a good solution, but until then analog is the way to go.

Make sure you get good cameras as well, Ascendent has the best IR outdoor cameras on the market and are about %50 less then Bosch while offering triple the distance.

What program can allow me to view my cameras from another location?

420SMOKER

I recently bought 4 new webcams, I also bought extended USB cords and therefore put the webcams up all around my house and started using them as security cameras. They work pretty well but i can only view my cameras on 1 computer, is there any program where i can view my cameras at work? or on another laptop at my house? thanks

IP is like wireless (in theory its perfect) if that was true there would be no wired cameras or analog cameras it would all be wireless IP.

This means CMOS has some significant disadvantages compared to CCD, this means CMOS
have inferior ability to cope with ambient lighting such as back light, bright, deep shadows contrasts, low light and IR this is also known as the real word.

(Ascendents X3 DVR achieves file sizes as low as .3KB on normal image quality on a CIF image no IP camera on the market will come close to this) The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most import spec of any DVR.

I have roommates and have noticed things have been missing from my room. I want a small wifi security camera that is motion activated and sends a signal to my iphone so i can watch the video from work. Does this kind of tech exist?

Answer
Absolutely it exists. D-Link makes some great, easy-to-setup wireless security cameras that have motion detection and you can view the video feed from your iPhone.

Check it out:

What makes you think it won't work. They are made to use with A TV or computer. The only problem I see is it's dirt cheap, so it's probably not very good quality. You should not except much from that security system.

Where can I buy a wireless security camera system for exterior use?

Billy

I am interested in buying a wireless security camera system but I don't know where I can find one. It's not something I can just find at walmart. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
WOW bad avice

You can take your advice from people who Google or a security professional who specializes in CCTV.

Peter Brissette: there is nothing new about the products on your website in fact there are many misleading statements. many offer 3G and IE connection.

On your website you claim:
4GB Micro SD Card for video storage (7 to 10 days)

Truth: a high resolution camera with the smallest file size will use over 15GB-30GB a day (with 40% motion) a 4GB card will give you hours not days.

There is nothing new about the products you offer they are lower then the average product out there.
There good for nany cameras but not for a security system.

the products you sell (except for PTZ) only fixed cameras which will almost never work as you cant adjust the view.

there is nothing bad about your products but they are not high end please don't claim them to be.
They should mainly be used for nany cameras not for people who are interested in security (I don't think you even have watermark so images wont hold up in court though cant confirm as your website has very little information and even less specs.)

Hello sorry about that

You don't want to record 24 hours a day you want to record on motion so if there is no moment you don't records this will increase your storage a and decrease the amount of video you need to look for.

Very few cameras offer true day night performance mainly companies claim but rarely deliver.

For night operation you need IR cameras or very good lighting I suggest the latter.

You want to stick with a brand for day night cameras such as Bosch, Ascendent, Pelco and honeywell

A good outdoor Camera will have

High resolution (520TVL or higher)
Good signal to noise ratio (S/N 49DB or 50DB)
A true Sony CCD (not Chinese knockoff)
Rugged enclosure to handle vandals and environments
At least IP 66 and a suitable temperature rating for you region
IR LED's to see in pitch dark: active IR rating not projected IR as projected IR has no coloration with how far the camera can see.
2 or 3 different sized LED;s 1 size LED one type of illumination means you either wont get distance or wide angle and you want both.

I would go with the VIS-56IR-2910
http://dealer.ascendentgroup.com//dvr-irâ¦

this camera will give you 110 feet of clear vision in complete darkness and great images by day its the on I recommend for budget customer who need outdoor IR camera.

Cameras that have high resolution, and great signal to noise ratio can reducing file size on DVR's up to 50% and offer better images.

Low budget Economical
ASC-520B21IR-36
Economical Infrared Bullet Camera
520TVL
see 25 feet outdoors
Fixed 3.6mm lens
35~-25C IP 66
MSRP $110.00

http://dealer.ascendentgroup.com//ascentâ¦

Cheap option would never suggest a camera lower then this one
(still much higher quality then Costco, Lorex, Swann, Qsee, and other no name products imported from china)

ASC-380B24IR-36
Infrared Bullet Camera
380TVL
see 25 feet outdoors
Fixed 3.6mm lens
35~-25C IP 66
MSRP $75.00

here is a write up I did on CCTV a while ago hope it helps

Not all DVRs are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

I suggest you buy a PC based DVR has they have more processing power and normally have a much smaller file size and offer more features then Standalone DVR's. I know many people buy a cheap standalone DVR, only to upgrade to a PC based in 6 months especially when they are using it to manage a store remotely. Also PC based allows you to record up to 64 cameras where a standalone will have a limit of 16.

Many people have the misconception that a PC-Based DVR is simply an off-the-shelf PC with video capture (encoder) cards, display (decoder) cards and some generic OEM software. A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day. This makes consumer-level hardware inadequate for DVRs which is why Ascendent uses custom-built PCs with performance-level hardware.

My personal favorite DVR is Ascendent X4 series: Ascendentâs Tri-Fusion Hybrid Platform allows for the creation of a true hybrid surveillance system by utilizing the advantages of Analog, Megapixel, and IP technologies for unparalleled customization and expandability. I am working on government projects and use Ascendent cameras and DVR because the offer superior performance and cost less then comparable brands like bosh, Honeywell and pelco.

The X4 also uses the latest H.

How does live monitoring from security camera's work?

Metal

We need a security camera for our home. When away, how does live monerting work through your iPhone or Android ? We live our little dog alone all day and would like to be able to check on him by this security camera too. Do you have to have a internet hookup, or phone hook up, how does it work to be able to broadcast that video to your iPhone or Droid?

Answer
Hi "Metal":

The most important thing to have, when setting up an internet-based camera (called an IP camera), is to have a good broadband (non-dialup, always on) internet connection at your house. It doesn't have to be high-speed cable modem (from your cable company) or fiber-optic (like Verizon FiOS or ATT U-verse), but at least a DSL-line from your phone company.

The IP cameras (or even a webcam connected to one of your computers) need to be connected to a home "network" or LAN (Local Area Network) via either WiFi --for wireless cams-- or using regular Ethernet (Cat5 or Cat6) cables to an internet router. If you just plan on having one camera connected to your PC, then you could use the computer as the "router", but routers are cheap ($20-$40 if you shop wisely) and simple to set up.

Your iPhone or Android device would simply use a web browser to log onto your home network, using an IP address & password, and you would watch your camera just like watching a YouTube feed, except that it would be "live".

Here's a YouTube demo of this using an iPhone, by a good security camera company: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnP_Dbqn1Cw&feature=related

There are plenty of other YouTube demos and tutorials, if you search around. I added a link to Swann cameras' website tutorials (they're the largest seller of DIY security systems) in my Sources below, as another good information resource.

hope this helps,

HELP Using an external camera in a portable DVR?

best security camera 2013 on Best security camera caption
best security camera 2013 image

Johnny

I'm using spy camera glasses with a portable DVR unit that I bought, but when I try to record all I get is a black screen. I am pretty sure I am connecting it up right, but there is no audio or video.

I tried updating the firmware for the DVR unit, but that just messed up the aspect ratio for the screen.
In case you were wondering no the glasses were not cheap, and neither was the DVR unit, the setup costed me $700 altogether.
The glasses were from brickhouse security, really expensive $300 ones, but the assholes don't even have a forum so far as I can tell.

I don't think the glasses are broken, but I am not sure what else it could be.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/74754638/2013-01-26%2015-37-0345.081.jpg

Here is a picture of the setup and everything. Sorry about the large picture size. I crammed several of them in there.

Answer
First thing to do is check the camera on a normal TV that has composite A/V in, and a normal composite A/V source into the DVR.

The N/P switch selects NTSC or PAL video. High/Low might set IRE (video black) or audio level.

The reason they just don't plug and play, is that they are two separate things, and there probably is no plug in standard for that.

What crafting, home decor, and/or fashion magazines can I subscribe to from the USA?

Alyssa

I'm looking for inspirational crafting, home decor, and/or fashion magazines that will ship to the USA. I found a magazine called Frankie, but it's only available in Australia as far as I could see. Google searches didn't bring up anything that fit what I need. The magazines I do NOT want: sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, quilting.

I plan on reading these magazines and cutting them up after I've finished them, all to add these inspirational images and articles to an inspiration board, and turn the remainder into envelopes for snail mail.

Please help?

Part of the problem is corporate spying. Competitors want photos of stores to compare their layouts and customer counts.

Another part is store security. You do not want to make it easy for theives to circumvent security cameras.

Please give me details of the procedures to be followed in the chennai airport, India .

This is my first time , I havent been inside ana riport before :)

Answer
Domestic travel is simple. immigration check is NOT required for domestic travel. Chennai airpot has two terminals one for domestic and one for international in the same campus. Check your ticket where to board.

Enter in to the airport showing your ticket and identity card if required.

Scan your check-in luggage :
Scan your Luggage: this to be done prior to the check-in there will be scanning machines for each /set of airlines the scanning will be done for your check-in baggage. Put your luggage thru the conveyer belt and scanned luggage comes the other end of scanning machine. The luggage get sealed there.

Do Check-in and collect boarding pass
Check-in your Baggage: Do check-in all your luggage other than Hand baggage (You may carry a laptop and/or a small suitcase/backpack as cabin baggage.)
Take your Boarding pass : you would have bought ticket from travel agent or booked in website (e-ticket). That to be showed to the corresponding airline counter during the check-in procedure. You will be issued boarding pass. You may choose your seat there ( window /aisle)

Security clearance;:
Take your hand baggage ( don't forgot to attach the address tag of the airlines). And pass thru the security area as directed by the security officers. Your hand baggage goes thru the scan and you walk thru the scanner. You may need to put wallet, cellphone, camera in the scanner along with the hand baggage.

Boarding
Wait at the security area suggest near the boarding gate (for your airline) till announcement to board. Watch the announcements carefully.

Board the flight after the call.
( there may be direct boarding from the lounge or need to travel by bus till the flight.)

Other Point to be noted.
Reach airport at-least 1.5 hours before the flight time. Since first timer suggest 2 hours in advance. (international travel required 3-4 hours of advance reporting)
Do not carry any sharp equipment or any other prohibited items in the hand baggage. (scisors , blades are not allowed), liquids (oil, perfume) limited to 100 ml

Do not hesitate to ask the clarification from the airline staff if you are not sure what to do next. They are helpful. Do not ask fellow passenger.
There will be sufficient announcements in the screens and speakers. Watch that carefully.

Do not carry any luggage or items that are NOT belong to you. If any
body handover parcels that may contain prohibited items and may put you in trouble. Do not trust strangers and new friendship

Securities are meant for the security of the passengers and they are go by rules only.

Carry luggage not exceeding the allowed limit.

Follow queue system.

Have a Nice trip and Enjoy.

Can a security camera work behind glass?

The Cult o

I want to install a security camera to see if/who is continously going through my terrace and ripping holes into my gate.

The problem is, I have no where to install the camera. The door leading outside is entirely made of glass, so I was thinking of installing it near there and pointing the camera outside.

Would that work? Or would there be glare problems and such?

Answer
Yes it would, In the top LEFT hand corner of your door point it directly at the gate and when you see those punks I suggest you call the cops FAST and see if you can stop them yourself.

Good luck with your problem. I have recently dealt with the same thing. My son's bike was stolen by a punk kid from the projects with some bolt cutters to cut through 2 steel gates and 1 steel lock with 4,000 strings of steel.

business question "antique mall owner needing security camera system" which is the best to buy?

best security camera linux image

Just trying to get input from someone that has an antique mall of similar business. I want to purchase a camera system that I can set up in "EACH" booth or atleast every other booth. Some can be dummies but I would like for atleast half of them to be the real deal. I ahve heard of dealers using globes and dummy cameras to deter thieves; does this work?
What system would you recommend and please don't say a 10,000 one, I cant afford that at the moment.

Answer
Hello

Dummy cameras are the worst possible they don't provide security and if someone is injured or claims to be injured in your store they can sue for providing a false sense of security. No professional security installer uses dummy cameras.

Here is a DVR that will work perfectly for you.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com/x4s.htm

I would recommend a Standalone DVR as they are more reliable and since they are linux based they are virus ans spy ware free.

The X4S Series DVR is an intelligent and professional CCTV management solution, integrating the latest technology and the most advanced features while maintaining a simple, intuitive, and graphical interface. The X4S Series DVR is a 24/7 turn key solution that meets demanding security needs to suit industrial and commercial applications. The X4S DVR is compatible with the X4 platform, allowing it to act as an IP server, while still remaining a standalone solution and allows you to view your cameras instantly over the internet with a PC or cell phone like the I-phone.

also here is some information on DVR and cameras you may want to read before buying a CCTV system.

Not all DVRs and security equipment are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry.

The X4 also uses the latest H.264/SVC codec offer video substantially better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

File size is crucial to streaming because most DVRâs on the market record at real time performance (30FPS per channel) so on a 4CH is trying to send 120, 8CH 240, and a 16CH 480 images per second which requires way too much bandwidth even for the most extreme internet connections.

The smaller the files size the more images are able to be sent, and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities, as it also determines the recording storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video. The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most important spec of any DVR.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest you ask for a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVRs say they have remote viewing but it is often too slow and laggy to be of any use especially if it is a standalone. Some good DVR brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent. These brands are what security professionals use.

I recommend Ascendent as they are less expensive because they cameras for companies like Bosch and Pelco and offer better performance but any of these 3 brands will work well.

These brand manufacturers also have a complete line of CCTV cameras and DVR for any application from residential to military and stand behind there warranties. You want to get a good bran name otherwise you will likely buy a product that work and cant be returned.

How to remote view security camera.?

Wonder

I have a security camera connected to a computer which is remotely connected via wi-fi and router to the internet. After installing the software on a another PC, it can't connect me to the IP address of the remote PC.

Any suggestions?
Colin, you're so smart. I can now view the camera using their software. Now how do I view with just the IP address and IE8?

Answer
It will need the public IP of the network, not the private. You will need to have forwarded the appropriate port required by the server software through the router to the internal address of the machine. You should set the internal address as static, and outside of the router dhcp pool. Also your public IP address is subject to change with no warning unless you are paying extra for a static address. And if you set up a single camera correctly on a computer, you should NOT need software on other machines, you should be able to view it in a web browser. When I install CCTV for people they always accept the DVR at nearly double the price of others but with pure web browser access, as it allows them to watch from sites where they can NOT install software like internet cafes and libraries, and from Mac and Linux machines. Otherwise they can only watch from a Windows machine where they are a trusted administrator.

I have a Swan security camera program running under a password protected user in Windows XP. Someone else uses the computer during the day and because of our timeclock is running on the same computer sometimes they have to restart the computer. When they restart it leaves us without the camera program running under the Admin user. I can't move the cameras to a different computer, so I am hoping I could just write a .bat file or something that at startup executes the camera program under the Admin user. Thanks.

Answer
You can do this with scheduled tasks. Just need the admins password to set it up.

How do you add a new computer tower and transfer your programs?

d.a.f.f.y.

I was thinking of getting a new computer tower. On our current computer we have programs installed that are necessary for our home business ie: termite program, Quickbooks, and security camera program. If I were to buy a new tower how do you transfer all of this to the new one?

Answer
The most guaranteed solution is to re-install them all again as there is no way to just transfer them.

You could try Windows Easy transfer to capture all the accounts and settings on the existing machine and add them to the new machine. You would still have to reinstall all software but your files, and many of the application settings would get transfered. You don't say which O/Ss you are dealing with so it is hard to give you specific details but it does come with the Windows disks you will get.

The other solution that would work would be to physically transfer your existing hard drive to the new machine and make it the system drive. It would require doing some changes to the O/S when the drive is transferred over. It will also probably mean that you will have a slower drive on your new system.

Sorry, but Windows s/w is not designed to allow simple transfer between systems. Would be nice at times.

Compare blackberry curve and android smart phones?

best security camera app for android on Antivirus & Mobile Security for Android
best security camera app for android image

DaisyMay

I just want to know the difference. I know the capabilities of an android (Because I have one) and I've been having phone troubles lately and didn't know if I should switch to Blackberry. What are the capabilities and what can the android do that the Blackberry can't? Would I be downgrading? Any information would be helpful thank you.

Answer
Ok before people come here and bash BlackBerry I'm going to tell you that's the worst comparison. Compare the Android to the newer BlackBerry 10 series not the BlackBerry legacy series.

I have a Z10 and always been a BlackBerry user. With the BlackBerry Z10 (Q10) you get what's called BlackBerry Balance which allows you to do business and play without having them interfere with eachother. If your phone was to ever be stolen or lost there's an app called BlackBerry Protect which allows you to track your phone and keep it secure and if hacked the phone would do a full security wipe without your permission, just be sure you have all apps backed up in BlackBerry Link(security is the top priority. Even Obama has a BlackBerry). The UI is smooth to the touch (BlackBerry Flow) and allows for easy software navigation. It's OS system uses a QNX Neutrino microkernel OS that enables the use of Flash and HTML5 capabilities and is prone to crashes (http://m.crackberry.com/history-qnx-and-itâs-implementation-blackberry-10), also known to be embedded in systems around us such as social networks, cars, hospitals and space shuttles to name a few( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGW76JB90Ro)which uses the C/C++ computing programing language (QNX is used in systems where the cost of failure is very high"- QNX CEO Dan Dodge) and is also an OS compiler running Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on update) Dalvik APIS, Adobe Air/Flash, and Java with QNX C/C++ native. It allows the option of Internet thetering so you could use it as a modem. The features of the hardware are limited. When you look at it you will realize there's no home button. This phone allows for you to only use touch with multiple swiping gestures that takes time to get used to. This is the main feature that makes this standout among other phones such as the iPhone. Typing is much easier where with it you don't even have to use type. All you need to do is start with the first letter and the phone will do the rest on it's own (predictive text), just flick up the word of your choice. The camera has a timeshift feature that allows for you to choose the perfect shot and has a cool story maker app that allows you to make PowerPoint like videos combining videos and photos alike with background music added. Internet (4G LTE) is much faster than other phones. If you're not familiar with BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) well here's your chance. This is the main reason why teens buy or have BlackBerry's. This allows you to exchange your pin number to friends (those with BBM) and communicate with them but also has video chat (similar to FaceTime on iPhone but for BlackBerry) and screen sharing. The only thing this phones lacks is apps which it started with 70,000 and now has 120,000+ apps with more being added but allows for you to sideload Android apps. The phone can also be used as a gaming console. There are so many things this phone has that many others don't and is considered the best phone in the market. Don't get tricked into buying something that you might not like and end up being stuck with your choice. Do the research on the specs of each phone.

Explaining the Difference:

The difference between iPhone and BlackBerry

To operate an iPhone you have a home button to push. You push it to turn it on and to get in and out of apps as with the BlackBerry Z10 you have no home button which means you have to use your fingers. To operate it you swipe up, left and right and to get out of an app you simply swipe up from the bottom.

Fun Fact:

Out of 600,000 phones the DoD uses, 470,000 are BlackBerry's, 41000 are iPhone's and 87,00 are Androids so BlackBerry wins in best security. (watch this ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY1ecfWT3GQ)

* BBM might have been the reason to buy the older BlackBerry's but that's not the case with the new BlackBerry10 devices. This platform bought new features to the table and a whole different mobile ecosystem with no lags, malware, and better security all with QNX. They already gave people on the other platforms the opportunity to witness the BlackBerry10 OS from their phones (http://global.blackberry.com/static/blackberry-10/glimpse/index . html)and that was one reason why people switched and now they are bringing BBM to other platforms to lure in more people. BlackBerry has the most powerful mobile computing operating system (QNX) so seeing how BBM will be on the iPhone and Android platforms I say it's a way for them to experience the new BlackBerry Messenger app new features (video chat and screen sharing) to regain their market share that they lost to the iPhone and Android phones. On their part its positive but even if they don't gain consumers they're still making money off the other platforms by allowing BBM service on other phones. What the best surveillance cameras for home?

Fynest1

Lately, I have people coming to my yard stealing all my stuff. Im almost never home like that because of work. So is what is the best outdoor surveillance cameras that is wireless and can also be viewed from a smart phone? (Android)

Answer
"Best" would be the pro-grade stuff. You should consider setting a budget.

For around $500, Swann and Lorex make decent 4-camera kits (DVR + cameras) that can be accessed remotely - and assumes you have a good knowledge of setting up networks and maintaining network security. It will be a good idea to use outdoor-rated cameras. The cameras with these kits aren't that great, but should be enough to get you started. It is best to install the cameras under the eaves of the house or under some other weather protection (even though they are "outdoor rated"). IP-network cameras cost a lot more, so it is probably best to stay with analog cameras that connect to a DVR that is on the computer network.

When a wired camera is used: A cable with the power and video feed goes from the camera to the DVR. At each end of the cable, there's a plug for power and a plug for video. If there is a mic in the camera, there will be a plug on each side for the mic. If there is Pan/tilt/zoom, there will be another plug for that... but that is all in one cable "bundle".

When a wireless camera is used: The camera needs local power (wire #1). The video is transmitted wirelessly to a base station. The base station connects to power (wire #2) and the DVR (wire #3).

Moral: a wired surveillance camera uses fewer wires than a "wireless" camera.

The DVR can be set up to send you email when certain alarm options are set up in the DVR. That way you don't have to stare at the smartphone all day. A special client needs to be installed on your phone - before you buy, check the ratings on the smartphone app and read the manual (download it from the manufacturer you are considering) to be sure it does what you want.

How do I find out my "real" ip address?

octane

The remotely viewable security camera system at my business requires that I enter the ip address for access. Since I installed a wireless router to my modem, the ip address won't let me view video surveillance. Going to "What is my ip address" gives me information that is not relavent to the DVR.

Answer
You can try clicking start then run which would be the bottom right of the start menu and then type cmd in the command prompt type: ipconfig/all and that would display your ip address which is usually the first one that comes up. I hope that helps, if not the IT suggestion would work to. To find out the external ip address which is usually assigned by the ISP you can trying typing the "nslookup" command in the command prompt as the one above. I think that command gives the external IP.

best security camera night image

I have a security camera, but it does not have night vision. Is there anyway I can make one, or get one under $10, to makw it easier for my security camera at night? (The lights can not be seen by the human eye)

Answer
use ordinary lighting for security at night. it ups the bar for anyone trying to do wrong if clearly visible, so that is as much a deterrent as cameras. ordinary lighting will give more detail and color which are important clues to making an ID. IR is monochrome and blurry and in some cases not admissable as evidence.

the cheap IR illuminators simply use LED's. they provide enough IR to be useful at about 2 meters (6 feet) maximum distance, great for camcorders at parties. totally useless for surveilence. you need the military type IR lamps, about the size of a small refrigerator to cover a parking lot.

not seen by human? get real, all a crook has to do is use a pocket digital camera to find IR illumination sources. doh.

You need to get one of these:
http://www.closeoutcctv.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=32

They are vandall proof. The cases are hard and can withstand a hammer. Wireless cameras are cool, but aren't worth the money.

These guys have a pretty good price too. Also, I called, cause I found one camera with a better price, and they beat it for me. The thing you'll need to know is that you can't just buy a security camera, you'll need to buy a DVR or recording device that you can plug them into.

I don't know if the best is right, but certainly the easiest to install at the lowest price is the X-10 brand.

How to prevent hooligans & terrorists from hacking into my WiFi network & internet in London?

best home security camera uk on SMALL INTERNAL DUMMY CCTV SURVEILLANCE CAMERA - HAY-2000
best home security camera uk image

Major

I live in an ethnically diverse and racially sensitive suburb outside London which has a history of trouble in big and small doses. Those who remember the hooliganism of the 2011 UK riots will agree.

I also have a self defence establishment in the city of London where I teach people personal protection techniques. This place, as well as my home, have several WiFi connections that record in real time, 24 x 7. Some of these connections are tied to surveillance cameras and other security monitoring systems to detect suspicious activity including break-ins.

Recently, during an audit, I noticed several loopholes and vulnerabilities in my WiFi setup which could be bypassed, allowing access to unauthorized people. Some well-meaning neighbours and concerned community citizens too have complained of intermittent WiFi breaches, attempts at hacking by miscreants and unknown people (that's the tough part -- you never know who's going to target you, and why).

Following the horrendous Woolwich Attack and the deplorable beheading of the young British soldier in May 2013, I'm making a serious effort to ensure protection on all fronts. I can deal with the physical part, it's the technological part that I see as a weak link.

The last thing I need is some religious nut or far-right nationalist (this swings both ways) hacking into my WiFi network and using it for their senseless propaganda.

My question is: How do I beef up my WiFi connection so that it isn't hijacked by anti-socials and/or terrorists for their nefarious deeds? I want to do this the easiest and best possible way.

Answer
Install a military-grade encryption software on all your WiFi-enabled devices (laptop, PC, cell phone tablet). At the same time, do not broadcast your SSID (Service Set Identification). Do this and your wireless connection will become invisible, anonymous.

SSID is what the drive-by WiFi seekers will use to locate your wireless signal or network and sniff out for potential vulnerabilities in your setup.

Some of the vulnerabilities include weak passwords, lack of encryption on your router, etc. Once they find that, it won't take long for them to hijack it. (Trust me, these hackers latch on to your network like marauding leeches.)

Anonymity on a wireless network is the easiest, most effective way to safeguard your private space and your personal internet.

I use it all the time.

Answer
Seek the professional advice of a Solicitor (UK), Attorney, (US) of which,
if there is a case to answer, They may be able to get you and him/her to
view the 'tape' at the investigating Police Station. No way will that tape
ever leave the sight of the Viewing Room Officer, It's not something you
can take home and watch at your' own convenience. The reason is quite
simply, because It's evidence of the Crime taking place.(Hth).

How does live monitoring from security camera's work?

best security camera for home use on PC-Based Home Security: Do It Yourself - In Pursuit Of Better Security

I added a link to Swann cameras' website tutorials (they're the largest seller of DIY security systems) in my Sources below, as another good information resource.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

I would recommend that you read up on video surveillance. there are lots of security cameras in the market that can specialize in a variety of things. there are simple ones that simply records videos while there are others that have night vision which is good for dimly lit environment. here's a good site to start on: http://www.video-surveillance-guide.com
