Building a new home and want to utilize the great features of home networking like remote monitoring of security cameras, change lighting, etc via Iphone app but want to avoid the monthly fees for monitoring services, etc. Any ideas?
Answer
I have been looking into the same things I believe what you want to do is available now. For security cameras, there are DVR systems and individual network cameras that allow the video to be streamed online. All you need is internet access and you can watch your cameras online. For home automation, the place that seems to have a reasonable amount of information is Smarthome.

Hi. Im a little security concious. If someone calls me on my iPhone and I have my facetime app on can that person see stuff through my camera without my knowledge? or is it impossible for me not to know? do I need to press a special button to accept the facetime call? Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid but I had a massive breach of my privacy some years ago and it had a dreadful effect on me. Thank
Answer
Yes, it is possible that a hacker could access your iPhone camera without you knowing it. Of course you need to screen your calls. Don't use that option with just anyone.
