A security camera in an office building has 1000 x 1000 pixels. Each pixel shows a grayscale intensity of 1024 levels. The camera takes one image per second. The building has 15 identical cameras with the same specification as described above.

If this were âreal worldâ then more information would be needed. How efficiently is the data encoded? Is the data compressed? Are any parity bits used?

Assuming that the encoding is 100% efficient (no waisted bits, no parity) and there is no compression:
Each pixel would take 10 bits for 1024 greyscale.
Each picture would have 1000x1000 = 1,000,000 pixels.
With 15 cameras each taking 1 picture per second, there is 15 pictures per second.

That is 15 x 1,000,000 x 10 = 150,000,000 bits of information per second
Which is 18,750,000 bytes of information per second in a perfect world. (8 bits per byte)
If you want true megabytes, then divide this by 1,048,576 bytes per megabyte.

In the real world, parity would likely be used, and compression would also likely be used. So the data rate could actually be lower.

What car security camera would this be?
