The driveway is about 2200 feet from my house and there is a phone jack at the gate which is connected to the house landline [ and my DSL]. Is there a way to use the phone jack to hook up a security camera or 'webcam' that I can monitor from my computer?
Answer
Call in the professionals.
2200 feet is outside the range of normal network interfaces so I wouldn't suggest trying any simple computer based solutions. Also, most cheap computer based solutions won't be weather proofed and will fail in a very short time. This may even be a problem for more traditional CCTV based solutions. I'd have to check allowed distances and if boosters are available to make it go the distance.
The next question I have to ask is while you are watching your driveway, how many people are walking up to the back door. If you really want security, you should probably go with a more comprehensive solution.
Given the length of your drive and above description I'd guess that you can afford to do this the right way. Go with a professional company that does security camera installations like this. You'll just be throwing money away if you try to do this yourself.

I have an AVI file copied from my jobs security camera, how can I get rid of the encryptions on it?
capt_pogo
Something funny happened at my job. I found the clip on our security cameras and saved the file to my flash drive. I got it home and the file is encrypted and I can't play it. Is there some sort of software I can use?
IGNORE! I found a codec that cleared the problem right up.
Answer
If you wanted this file avi codec you could go to the site and download it yourself instead of making a copy from your job. When jobs have files on their company computers they will have them encrypted incase some employees wanted to comy them like you did. Just delete the file and go to avi codec.com and download a free copy there.
