Can u netwk home devices (security cams,lighting,energy monitoring)without monthly fee?

Building a new home and want to utilize the great features of home networking like remote monitoring of security cameras, change lighting, etc via Iphone app but want to avoid the monthly fees for monitoring services, etc. Any ideas?

I have been looking into the same things I believe what you want to do is available now. For security cameras, there are DVR systems and individual network cameras that allow the video to be streamed online. All you need is internet access and you can watch your cameras online. For home automation, the place that seems to have a reasonable amount of information is Smarthome.

iPOD TOUCH OR iPHONE?

I am 14 years old and want to buy me an ipod touch but when i went to my local walmart i found out that the i Phone is actually 97 dollars and the i pod touch is 195 dollars which one is better. All i am going to do is use the ipod touch part of the the i phone my question is which one is a better buy and also can i just use the ipod, the tv/movie part of the iphone, and the app part of the iphone without using the phone basically i just wanna use the ipod touch part of the iphone and i wanna know can i do that? iPod touch. It has everything the iPhone has besides calling and camera, iPod touch is also cheaper and if u want to text get textplus app it'S free!!! I have an 8g iPod touch so I reccommend that. Go iPod touch!!! Also some apps I recommend that are all free
