30 desktops, 35 laptops, 6 servers, phone system, security cameras, printers, IQ database reporting, Crystal reporting, UNIX, Linux, SQL MS 2003. XP, Vista and 7 machines. Should I look else where?

Answer
Joe - I'm going to assume this is in dollars and in the USA. If it is elsewhere my info may not apply. The term manager applies to someone who manages other staff members and does not do technical work themselves.

The description of this job sounds like a small company with 65 employees and they are trying to hire one guy to do it all. If you indeed can handle all the different operating systems and applications they list then I would say go for it. I would not be qualified for this job and earn a lot more than what they are offering. Also, I don't know any other person in IT that would qualify for the job without at least some study. I'm sure they are out there but they are not working for a company with 65 employees at 40k.

Companies like to post ads for positions asking for people with qualifications that just don't exist and this is one of those. If you need an entry level position I would go over and talk with them. Tell them what you can do and what you can't do and that you can get up to speed quickly on the things that you can't do right now.

Best wishes.

Linux and Microsoft: What are their other varied applications?

Velocity

I know there are cellphones that use the Linux OS but what else? The program is so customizable that I have to believe its used for other machines/tools than the computer.

Is Microsoft limited to the PC however?

Answer
