I want to install a Home Security Camera System. I don't want to buy a prepackaged kit because I want to invest in better camera's. What will it take for me to build a system if I buy a used monitor and CPU and new camera's? I don't know what else is needed to create my system.

Answer
You will require drill , mounting bracket & Camera for installation.

First you will have to take decision about the proper position of Camera. Then you have make mark on the wall. You will have to drill the holes & fit the mounting bracket. Connect the wires from camera to monitor. Check the power supply with tester and give power to Camera.Position the camera so that it faces the proper area. Check the overall operation.

What camera should I buy for use in my church?

We need to replace a very old VHS camcorder. I have been given the task of finding prices to report back to the church. What would you suggest? Our camera is mounted at the back of the sanctuary, a distance of about 35 feet from the pulpit (the choir is another 10 feet behind that) and it is mounted about 7 feet off the floor. We will need a good zoom (preferably one that we can adjust without having to climb a step ladder) and a wide angle lens. WE are also wondering about panning ability (again, a remote would be beneficial here). There is also the question of whether to switch over to a dvd camera or go with another cassette format.

Answer
I agree with Olin1963, you need to know a little bit about what you want to do. What is your budget and what format do you want to produce to (Are you documenting for access television? What is the format they broadcast in?)

We have a whole range of services from single chip vhs to three camera services with a production crew.

B&H has a Sony security camera with a wired controler for under a thousand dollars. That might be useful connected to a Sima Colorwriter character generator to add text (Under three hundred dollars I believe) and either a dvd recorder for a hundred dollars or a VHS recorder under sixty. You will need to connect this set up to the in house sound system, or add an audio mixer and microphones. This would give you a decent start to a multi-camera system. Add a second camera and a lower end video switcher with a couple of Video Distribution Amplifiers and monitors and you have a whole system for under three thousand dollars.

The link at the bottom has some good ideas, try them but shop around before you buy a system.
