I want to set up a live camera 50 miles away?

DeMoN
Hello, I want to set up a remote security camera that has a range to give me live information at another place, and I wish to view it from my computer.
I heard from a friend that you can buy a such camera that has the ability to give you a 360 degree view and etc.
Is this possible and if so, where can I buy one?
Sorry, there is no internet available in this area :(
Answer
To get the video signal 50 miles away you have three basic choices:
1) Wired/Cable
2) Wireless
3) Via Internet/IP
You've ruled out #3. That leaves #1, which may be possible if there's a phone line, although you won't get a full 30 frames per second, even on an ISDN line.
That pretty much leaves #2, which is a wireless solution. You can broadcast video, but not 50 miles. You could however broadcast it to where you could get Internet service, if that service is within say, 1 mile.

Generally though, your best bet is to get internet out there. If I had to do it as a matter of life and death and there was no wired Internet access, I would do this: Install the camera. Plug it into a laptop with a wireless internet card, the kind that uses a cell phone network. I would use software so that the laptop (and hence the camera) could be remotely accessed. I would put the laptop inside a protective housing and just leave it running. I could then be 50 miles away, accessing the Internet to run the camera.
