best outdoor security camera night vision image
Jen
Someone seems to think it is funny to throw beer bottles and garbage on our lawn. We are trying to catch them in the act. We think we know who it is, but we want to get a security camera to try to protect our property. Does anyone know who makes the best, affordable security cameras?
Answer
Get a CCTV camera with infrared night vision and CCD sensor - do not get a camera with a CMOS sensor, they are no good in the dark.
Get a camera with a high resolution (480) and and digital DVR than can record that resolution

Looking for a good outdoor security camera?

I know what I'm looking for, just can't seem to find it, or I don't know the proper terminology.
But I've been having a problem with trespassers. Annndd I also live on 80 acres of land. However, there are only 2 entrances. One of these entrances is my driveway and this is where I want to monitor. Now please note that my house is actually about a half mile back in the woods. I want to place the camera in between my house and the road out front. And I want to be able to have this footage on my laptop any time... 24/7 projecting on my wall if I want.
But working with such a distance I almost have to assume that this has to be a wireless setup. Unless 300 or so yards of camera cable isn't that expensive..
Ok, so here's what I want broken down:
-Outdoor use
-Good night vision as I'm primarily trying to catch trespassing hunters at night
-I want to be able to view the streaming camera footage on my computer
-Wired or wireless doesn't matter really. At first I thought I wanted wireless but I don't really want to bother with dying batteries. Then again I don't want to buy tons of cable and snake it through the woods either. So, whatever.
-My only option is to mount this camera to a tree. I like the bullet style cameras. I would be IN LOVE with a camera that I can turn and has the 360 degree vision but now we're talking money. I'm really not trying to go over 300 dollars with this. 100 would be cool too...
So does anyone have any suggestions? Or have any experience with a camera setup like this?
Thanks.
Oh, almost forgot to mention anything about the recording features, which is the problem I'm running into mostly online. Most say I have to hook up these cameras to a DVR? Which I have... But it would just be a lot more convenient if I could run the whole thing from my computer. (saved video/manage,save,delete video/ control camera tilts if available...)

Hello, You are not alone on this. We get this request on a regular basis.
The biggest trouble is the wires or the batteries.
We say that you should use wires for power and wireless transmission of the video ,if you want to have it on your laptop.
Staying in your budget I think you should use an IP, or WiFi camera. The signal has good distance its easy to work with and you probably have the wireless router already.
This night vision camera http://www.spyville.com/outdoor-wireless-color-night-vision-camera.html needs power. You can mount it anywhere that you have electricity and send a signal back to your router, ( you network in from your laptop already)
Software is included for recording remote view and local viewing.
So you mount the camera on a tree , pole or wherever and plug it in or wire it to power.
You can run up to 6 of these on your router but you speed would suffer I think maybe you could start with 2 and get some good video.
If you want to run wires you can get a camera like this and USB DVR to connect to your laptop. A usb dvr will use up most of your laptop resources.
Good luck..
