security camera question?

1st-time-m

I need something I can mount to the exterior of my home and watch it from 6 hours away on my computer. I do not have internet at the home and have no way of getting it. Any ideas

Answer
Assuming you have another computer you can use in this 6 hour away location and a phone line, you can call home and view the security camera(s) mounted to your house. This of course means that your home must have a phone line and some equipment.

The equipment at home will require a Computer, a application, a special modem, a phone line and a camera(s).

How it works (non technical)
You dial-up your home number from your location using a computer, your home computer answers and displays you a name and password prompt.

Once you provide the proper identification, you then can look live at what the camera are displaying or look at any recordings that were made using the application controlling them.

Cost of this:

I will give one link and you can decide or do further research.

I have an infrared security camera that is having issues with "seeing" through a window after dark. Would installing a separate infrared light outside the window fix this or would it be a waste of money?

Answer
More than likely, it would be a waste of money.

With security cameras, indoor cameras take care of the inside and outdoor camera, well... are for the outside. If your worried about the camera being outside, put it in a vandal proof housing in a discrete location.

What kind of security camera should I get to view behavior from a different location?

xtheximper

I need a camera to put in my workshop. This location has electricity, but does not have internet. My home is about 500 feet away from my workshop. I need to be able to view activity from my home at any time. I want a camera that I can simply plug in to work or that will work wirelessly. Any ideas of cameras I could use for security purposes?

how to set up a security camera system?

Rachael

Answer
1.Determine where security cameras should be placed. For the home and the business, any areas that have high traffic or items of value are prime locations for cameras. Also, consider placing cameras where break-ins or acts of vandalism are more likely to occur.

2.Optimize camera placement. Once you have determined where the cameras should go, plan for the least amount of wiring and the widest viewing angles for each camera. Since there are only so many cameras included per kit, it is best to utilize each one as much as possible before resorting to purchasing additional cameras to connect to the camera control unit.

Should I continue with my security camera?

thefemaler

Put it up to record harassment I've been dealing with for eight months, now my new truck tires are slashed, all four. Should I continue with my security camera? I've seen quite a bit. And I think whoever did this knows that I know something.

Answer
I would keep the security camera, but move it to a different location, so whoever does it doesn't know where it is.

Technical difference of Security CCD Cameras and Handi DV Cam?

anoop s

Answer
There are two obvious ones.

The Security CCD Camera has no built-in tape or other recording capability and are designed usually to be in a fixed location indoors or out. They can be connected to a VCR by wire or WiFi or even be an addressable IP camera which can send images in real time to security computers anywhere in the world. In addition it has limited resolution (a few thousand pixels vs. 2 megapixels in Handi DV's), but can be chipped for low lux, IR or other specialty requirements.

The Handi DV is a lot more like any hand held video recorder but usually uses a memory card to record the images. It is the compromise between having a real still camera, digital audio recorder or video camera. It attempts to be all three.

How long do they keep the security camera films on in the Toyota services department?

hello.Pand

On November 12, I went to have a car maintenance at the Toyota place and then had my car washed later on. After I left and got home, I just noticed that the brackets(?) that are attached to the roof of my car, a piece of it came off. I did't make this inquiry sooner. So I know this will be harder for having the Toyota location pay me back for that missing piece. I've called and called them and my questions are unanswered.

So. I was wondering if anyone knew for the security cameras in a Toyota lot, how long they keep those films for? I asked and they said "I don't know, maybe 14 days before they tape over it again".

Answer
It depends on the dealer. Some keep them for a day or two and others months.

I agree with Harry though. It's probably in the carwash drain.

How to mess up a digital security camera?

best security camera locations on ... registers , security cameras , surveillance images , teller stations
best security camera locations image

jennyfire

My neighbor has installed security cameras directly aimed at my home for whatever reason. I am wondering if there us any way to mess them up?

Answer
Look directly at the camera, and say "I am going to mess you up".

If that does not work, growl when you say it.

And if that does not work, use a Hulk Hogan pose and say it.

And if that does not work, try different combinations of similar approaches.

And if you cannot solve the problem using that approach, you can always erect a giant fence or wall at the edge of your property to block the camera's view.

However, truth be told, many cheap security cameras have very wide angle lenses, which means the foreground is well in view, but distant objects, even those 30 ft away are pretty tiny. So while it may appear that they are directing the camera at you, they may just be looking at the corner of their house.

In the US, property owners may legally prohibit photography on their premises but have no right to prohibit others from photographing their property from other locations.

Basically, anyone can be photographed without their consent except when they have secluded themselves in places where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy such as dressing rooms, restrooms, medical facilities, and inside their homes.

Also, have you tried the direct approach? Have you asked your neighbor why they are photographing your house?

Help finding a good set of security cameras for community entrance without electricity?

AlanIAM

I need advice on security cameras. We have two entrances to our Colorado mountain community neither of which has electricity. We want to post cameras at both entrances and maybe one or two other locations. I am thinking we'd have to go with battery operated cameras and even better if the cameras allow the batteries to be solar recharged. To save us having to climb trees, removing memory cards, etc., we would like cameras we could drive next to with a laptop in the vehicle, download the pictures, delete the pictures from the camera, be on our way. Would be even better if we could transmit the pictures via the internet but nothing electronic out there, like a router, and transmitting pictures via satellite would like be too expensive, I think. Might someone here know of a good camera or a kit that would fit this need? Our budget is $500 max and that will be a bit of a stretch.

Answer
Check out wildlife/trail cameras with GSM connectivity - if you've got some sort of cellphone reception in that area.
Can't recommend any brands or even websites, though. Most of them seem to come from China anyway.
What I can see from here, the prices for the GSM models seem a bit overrated, though (around 350$) - a German supermarket chain is regularly selling the cheapest no-GSM-model for 99 â¬.

If you don't have GSM connectivity in that area, you might check if an Eye fi card works in the cameras that might be suitable for you: http://www.eye.fi, those look like ordinary SD cards, but provide WiFi connection in addition.

Oh, and perhaps run a cord down to a battery compartment at ground level. Saves you climbing that tree to change batteries unless some a**hole rips out said battery compartment (won't do them any good with the batteries inside the camera still operational...)

Iâve seen some cheap IP cameras and I donât trust them, they look like something a 3 year old plays with so I need a good quality commercial grade security camera. Referrals please and thank you.

Answer
The IP cameras I install are by Everfocus, this is a commercial rated camera not a cheap camera sold at Wal-mart or Costco. Should last you for years and good warranty.

To people with security cameras at home: How often do you check them?

N

I've always wondered in those big houses how often people check their security cameras at home, if they have them. Is it just when your house is burglarized or do you do it after every dinner party?

Answer
Probably in big houses with a lot of security cameras they have a DVR security system set up that records all the video cameras. With those computerized systems they can look at what different cameras recorded at different times.

They can also have it set up to receive cell phone alerts when a motion detector on a camera detects movement in a certain area. The cameras can also be viewed from a computer at another location.
