The company has many security cameras monitoring the parking lot, but they said they couldn't find who hit my carfrom the video tape. Is the company liabe for the incident?

What can outdoor grocery store security cameras see?

My friend was recently hit and run in a ralph's parking lot, and we noticed it had security cameras outside. Are they mainly just for the front of the store or do they see some or all of the parking lot? And if they do see the parking lot, can they pick out a license plate?
