Wireless security camera?

Leff Behin

Hello, I have a rather large home property that I need to set up cameras for. I need one to cover the driveway, one to cover the rear yard, and another facing from the back toward the driveway. I've heard of these wireless IP cameras that let you view them over the Internet. Has anyone else experimented with these? Do you have one you can recommend? Do they slow down your Internet much?

Answer
All the answers above are partially right. Wireless IP cameras are cameras where each camera sends its video signal through a wifi signal. It does not have to use your internet connection or slow down your internet. The only time this would involve using your internet connection is when you are streaming the video remotely to look at it from the internet.
The problem with building a wireless camera system with IP cameras is cost. Good cameras that will last more than a year and provide you with good quality video will cost you more than $700 per camera. Trust me I've done over 25 wireless cam projects for many companies and clients with large homes. Unless that's a cost you can afford I will recommend that you get a ANALOG wireless camera. That is a camera that will send a wireless signal over RF frequency like 5.8GHz back to a receiver. These cameras are also strong when it comes down to transmission power. You can go miles with those if your receiver antenna can see the camera antenna. And best of all they much cheaper. You should be able to set up a system of 8 cameras for under $4500.

I looked at one of the above sites and found something that will work. I have seen these cameras at one of the sites I worked on and they are good. If you're looking at the complete system then take a look at this:
