I would like to buy a small security camera so I can monitor my home (indoor) when I'm away in a different state. I already have Skype and a camera hooked up an am online. I do not leave my computer on 24/7; I shut it off at night. What all do I need? can I use the camera I have now or do I need to buy a 'security' camera?

You need to buy a security camera. Regular cameras do not have the same connections that you would need for a security system. You a DVR, and hard drive INSTALLED, cameras, cables, power supply and splitter. Monitor of course but you can use any monitor or tv screen you already have. Most DVRs now have the capability to view the video when you are away from another pc or MAC or from your phone, assuming that you have a smart phone. How do I watch recorded surveillance off my new DIY Security Camera Kit?

I installed a DIY Security Camera Kit in my store and I connected it to a small TV monitor. The audio and video lines are connected from the receiver to the monitor. I keep playing around with the menu options on the TV itself and going through the channels I just can't seem to figure out how to watch yesterday's recordings. I'm sure I would've found it if I had it connected to my desktop monitor instead of the tv monitor but if someone can help me out I'd appreciate it thanks. Oh and btw I did check the manual it's just one of those simple basic directions with diagram how to install it but nothing about watching recorded video.

You know what would help? Manufacturer's name, model number of the kit and possibly even a web site we could check out. At this point there is no way anyone can give you a reasonable answer since we really don't know what you have. How do you know that the kit you bought records? If the manual doesn't talk about it then I would have to guess that it doesn't. Of course I could be all wrong. However without any specific information from you it is hard to determine anything.

If so, then what you bought does not have any built in recording capabilities. In order to record video you need to hook it up to a recorder of some sort.
