My desktop won't connect to the internet but everything else will?

Kamyar D

Dell Optiplex 360 running Windows XP Professional. It is a shop computer. A few days ago, we lost internet connectivity. I recently hooked up a USB to Ethernet adapter because it seems as if the NIC on the motherboard is defective now. I can't connect to the internet using the desktop, but I can connect to other devices on my LAN, such as registers and security cameras. My cell phone can connect, which is obviously wireless. I have rebooted and reset both the router and the computer. I called Verizon, and they aren't helping (They want me to pay $110 just to check to see if it will be fixed; if it gets fixed, good for them, if they can't, tough luck getting a refund). What should I do now? I need internet up and running tonight!

Answer
Try a USB adapter as described here http://babyraj.com/wireless-usb-adapters/

Since the the ethernet and USB is also not working might be some virus/malware problem .Do you have an Antivurs software installed? Otherwise you need to install one.

If no problems found after a virus scan .Reinstall the OS .Why I am saying that you have already tried so many steps

Use any of the free one from this list http://babyraj.com/top10-antivirus-software-of-2012/
I recommend to use AVG since it will not delete files without permission .some times avast do the same .

If you need a scrutiny analysis you can also check the malware and spyware tools mentioned here(
